Installing a Vaultwarden Server for Bitwarden

Ғылым және технология

Bitwarden is an open-source password manager. Vaultwarden is a Rust-based server compatible with all Bitwarden clients. If you want to self-host a cloud-based password manager, follow this guide to set up Vaultwarden using a Docker image running in a Podman container.

Thanks for the informative video and website. I was stuck on the HTTPS/Reverse proxy portion for several months. I just came back to revisit my vaultwarden install when I found your video. Your use of Apache + certbot was the solution I needed. If I may suggest, the inclusion of time stamps would be the icing on the cake.

The project will soon remove the legacy Websockets implementation on port 3012 with version 1.31 which will in turn break installations using this method. Could you publish an update or how to migrate to the new Rocket implementation ?

There is no settings options for the Bitwarden app nor on the extensions for Chrome, Firefox, or Safari to add the self hosted environment. Im guessing this was a recent change Bitwarden made?

You need to select the server drop down when you go to login and select Self-Hosted

You didn't paste the entire error message. You need to provide that plus the exact command you're running if you want anyone to be able to help you. Since I have video evidence that the command I demonstrated works, it's likely you typed or modified something incorrectly.

You're welcome to skim through the instructions page I linked to in the description if you think you can do it faster (which you probably could, since I explained things verbally in the video). Some of the video is also just demonstrating Bitwarden at the end, so you don't have to watch that part. KZread also lets you increase the playback speed to decrease the watch time. A single hour isn't really that much for sufficiently understanding a network-exposed system that's going to be holding all of your passwords, though.

I said I was going to explain what I was doing in-depth, and I did. If you feel you don't need the explanations, then you're welcome to simply copy/paste the commands and hope they work.

@@NerdOnTheStreet No need to be bitter. Check the basic stats about KZread videos, the average watch time is around 12 minutes. I'm curious about the software and I genuinely appreciate the effort you have put into making this video, but there's no way for me to sit and watch an hour long video for it. I think you should rethink your format, that is all I'm saying.

  • @NerdOnTheStreet

Rejecting your feedback is not being "bitter." I'm just letting you know that I'm not going to deprive the rest of the world of information because your attention span is short. If there's truly "no way for you to sit and watch an hour long video," then you may want to take a serious look at your browsing habits-- unless that statement was hyperbole. You are also completely in control of the viewing experience-- you are welcome to watch at a faster speed, for example, or skip through parts you don't find useful. I'm not sure why you're citing KZread statistics at all; I've been on this platform for over a decade, I'm well aware of what the algorithms prefer, and I would have replaced NOTS with another project by now if I was simply trying to farm views.
