    when drilling through walls I use a 10mm from the inside to be sure you get the hole where you really want it, then drill from outside with the bigger drill just go easy at the end, normally works well.

    Regarding identifying pre existing problems with other previous installs I would consider the following ... Tell your client during the initial visit, that you are obliged to address any yet unforeseen electrical issues as "due dilligence", and if so the client can choose to have the problem remedied at their expense by you or another contractor. However, time and financial constraints might create problems. You might even have to disconnect a circuit if deemed unsafe until the opportunity to correct defects arises. Gas installers often cap fires off and label them as unsafe ... For example .😉

    Your only responsibility is to inform the client of anything you observe that you feel is unsafe and note it in the 'comments on existing installation' box. If they aren't willing to pay to have it fixed, then that's on them. It's almost worse that you installed the original socket but rather than calling you back to relocate it, they thought "We'll save ourselves a few quid and just move it ourselves".

    You raise a really interesting point about finding bad or dangerous Electrics in a property. Doesn't matter whether it is Domestic or Commercial, if there is a risk to public, are we obliged to fix the issue once we have found it? Personally, I think it depends on the severity of what you are looking at. For example, the example of the old isolator at 05:15 is open, and someone could quite easily flick it open and receive a shock (if it is live). I would check if it is live, and if it is, is it in use? If yes still, can I fix the broken door? If still no, then I would put a strong recommendation in to the customer to replace it, and put it on the certificate that advise has been given. At the stage you are losing time/money it's not fair to expect you to work for no money. So a quote should be agreed with the customer before proceeding. Also, what happens if you change it and it goes wrong, have you now got to go back to fix it again for free? After all it was you that touched it last... As for the socket, yes it's unfixed cabling, but you did the job to the correct standard before they moved it. Your certificate can no longer be valid as they have tampered and altered the work you completed. So it is not your fault, or in your interest to rectify it. However, I would probably do the same as it's a reputation thing!!! In summary, I think it depends on severity of what you find, and what you perceive the risk to be. Enjoying the vids!

  • @chrissharpe2781

    @chrissharpe2781

    4 жыл бұрын

    Alvin Ashman measured PSCC for one phase then double it to get P-P PSCC. At least that’s what I was told by Guy on the T&I course. I hope that’s right cos I’ve been doing that for years.

  • @ashmanelectricalservices4318

    @ashmanelectricalservices4318

    @@chrissharpe2781 Yes, you are right, you measure the PSCC between each of the phase conductors and neutral then you double your highest reading. Most modern MFT's should be able to carry out a direct measurement between phases but I don't think the Kewtech KT 63 can.

    Kewtech KT63 is dog shit I'm afraid - when the batteries get to 2 bars the readings vary dramatically for no apparent reason. Also can't do a proper 2 lead test like you can on Meggers / Fluke MFTs - you have to piggy back the neutral & earth leads. proper nightmare in industrial settings if the DB happens to have Rcd main switch....

    If it is really unsafe,its your responsibility to tell the client that this isnt safe and MUST be mended!Because if you don't and later on there is a accident and someone is hurt or dead,then they come to you and ask why you did it like that!You are the professional and should know better than to not change it.You could even be banned from your profession!
