This is an overview of the process involved in correcting installing an armoured cable for an outdoor supply. We talk about how deep the cable needs to be buried, what type of cable to use, and what costs might be involved with materials and labour.

Nice to see tile tape (Northern power grid spec) being used, as required for a supply to a property/house, for concentric cable .... but a belt and braces approach above spec, but they do say "the most expensive cable, is the one you didn't lay" .... top job !

Wow this vid looks like what I need. Just as a rough and dirty estimate… how best to get power to a shed 1 metre from the house, then continue on to a future garden room 9 metres from the house? One cable popping up in the shed, then carrying on to the garden room? Just need sockets and lights in both, and two electric radiators in the garden room. Would 16mm2 cable do the trick?

Really good video and it’s obvious you take a pride in what you do, the only comment I have is that a duct should have been run to meet any future need, such as a wired access point for example, especially as running another duct would now be difficult due to the high standard of cable capping. The method of going under the floor was superb, not many electricians on KZread have done that.

Great video - quick question - wouldn’t it have been easier to just add a second consumer unit at the back of the house? I literally have no idea if that’s even able be done, just sounds like it could be easier than drilling the hole under the house back to it? Cheers!

Thanks for the comment James. Genuine question from us though: under what circumstances might you want to remove the cable, and how would this be possible anyway if the customer has (as they intend to do in this case) built an extension over where the cable is buried? We took the decision that a thin layer of impact protection was necessary to protect the cable from any potential ground works undertaken prior to this extension build taking place - even though the work isn't due to take place for perhaps a year or so.
