Installing a DIY Roof Rack on my 2020 Ford Transit Camper Van Conversion

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The first episode of my DIY van conversion with Betty, my 2020 Ford Transit Cargo Van. Detailing how to install a Flatline Van Co Low Profile roof rack by yourself, as well as why I chose Flatline Van Co. over Aluminess, or making one entirely from scratch with 80/20 extruded aluminum.
Towards the end I give a cost breakdown for this project, and give some tips for how you can install your own better than I did.

Nice work and video of your install, breakdown of the costs, and different things with other racks etc. One thing would have been nice to have included was a short video walk around of your finished rack, showing side views and front air dam. Glad your the Max Air transition component was there after your drive about...that kinda reminds me of me🙃

Nice job, you should use butyl tape between the mounts and the van and also put the sealant all around the top of the bolts too! Cut the hole in the sealant bigger and put on one continuous line so there are no possibilities of a tiny gap. Thanks for the video!

I got the front fairing to go on with the lock washers. You just have to barely start the bolts into the T-nuts. It did get tighter as I pushed the crossbar on to the T-nuts, but it was not bad. I agree that the Flatline Van Co. rack is a good middle-of-the-road option. Luminess, to me, is too expensive. If you want to do a totally DIY rack, DIYVan has some plates that they sell to mount to the factory holes. One tip: I used a moving blanket to protect the roof on one side while I was bolting the crossbar on the other side. It protected the paint on the roof and kept the crossbar from sliding around. My video of my FVC rack is on my channel.

Hey, question I have for you is are you sleeping in the van while you’re doing these modifications? And my other question was what kind of temporary or even long-term solutions are you using for your heating, refrigeration, storage etc. while you’re in the middle of the process?

I consider a DIY as coming up with my own brackets and mounting. You installed a kit.

Thanks for your subjective opinion. How about you make your own video, and you can define it however you'd like?

    在Van顶部和车身开窗户是很愚蠢的行为,这会破坏箱体的承重和私密保温隔音平衡,车顶的空间效率无法充分的极致发挥。
