Bill, you are the handiest handyman I've ever seen. Elizabeth, you're a lucky and blessed woman.
When I did mine, I used oversized pool noodles for my gasket and built a wooden sill plate at the floor. and silicone caulk to seal the noodles...the top noodle spanned over the entire doorway that was almost the entire length of the cab back... I cut my hole larger when I realized thew advantages of the much larger hole. The gasket seems really nice but the larger opening, with curved edges and corners was so much better than just a doorway with no door...my dog loved sitting around back there and sticking his head around the seats. Glued vinyl to cover around edges was good... every few years I would rebuild and recaulk, but that was easy

The purchased gasket looks like a very good product. I think I probably would have put the seam midpoint on the bottom and a threshold plate over it. I also like GE silicone. Nice job.

Do you have photos of this?
I think I would have gotten a longer drill bit. A 1/4" bit, 6" long, is only $4 or so on Amazon. It might not be contractor-grade, but if it stays sharp long enough to drill your alignment holes, it would be worth it. I have seldom been able to completely trust my own measurements, so II tend to start small and then trim to final size on projects similar to this. I know you've already done this, but for next time, or for someone else, the long bit is another possible solution, especially for folks who are not as confident in their measuring skills. You make a good example with your use of protective equipment, too. I worked on helicopters and also did some shooting, while I was in the Army. If I hadn't had earplugs, I would probably be very hard of hearing now. You did a very nice job, Bill. Thank you for your very useful videos. I don't know if I will ever convince Linda to let me do a project like this, she seems to think I'm getting too old and feeble to tackle something of this magnitude. I just turned 67 last month, but inside I still feel about 35. I'd really like to have a box truck camper like yours. All the best to you and Elizabeth.

P.S. You and Elizabeth are natural born teachers!❤P.S.S. Smart idea to be able to slip to the front if you have to make a quick “get-away”, worth the effort, for sure!👍
I love how you explain and tell us how you think things through! Watching you work reminds me of my dad! He made a motorized lawnmower back in the 40’s and a lawn sprinkler system, which then the neighbors asked to help them put theirs in!
Nice job on the cut- thru Bill.
I really like how that came out! I agree with you; an actual door that closes right there isn't really necessary, and the gasket is a great solution for that gap between the door and the cab. Your plan is really coming together! Thanks for taking us along, Bill and Elizabeth! Much love. :)

Hi Bill and Elizabeth, from the Florida panhandle 👋Ingenious solution.! Great job, Bill. I love the way you take care of Elizabeth and make sure she has all of her needs met. Love you guys ❤❤❤God bless you and enjoy the journey.🎉
Another job well done! That was very clever the way you snipped off the metal to overlap the rubber. It looks great! My husband and I often learn from KZread University!😉
Another job well done Bill.
It's always fun to see you work and create!!!
Now, this is a project worth watching! I can't wait to see the full transformation. Take ur time as you go through 'KZread University👍
May God keep giving you the strength to continue Bill. 😅😅 GREECE.
Im enjoying watching , 👀 as I may have said before, I'm good at watching others work. God bless you both .
I always love watching these videos. I can’t believe I watched it all the way to the end. You just continue to amaze me. In a good way. So thankful that Elizabeth and your family has you as head of household. You’re a great example of Live simple live free.
Awesome! I've wondered how this was done and it doesn't look quite as intimidating as I thought it would be. I like the curve vs the square corners and the barn door style slider sounds great. Great job! I would never have thought those channels were cardboard. That was a surprise.
Bill-well done!
Wonderful. Wish I had one for traveling but watching you made my husband realize he couldn't do it himself. Guess we'll have to buy one from someone who has already fixed one up. Works for me😊.
I love watching you work on stuff. God Bless you and Elizabeth.
I really liked this video Bill. I would've been so worried about making that cut, and I have been in the construction industry for over 4 decades. Good job.

Elizabeth, I'm sure you are very happy with this "through way food". Your hubby is a hard worker and does great work. I'd like to see how he put the side door on. WOW! I had faith you would figure it out. :) Good job! When Elizabeth stepped through the door it passed the "test". 😍😍

Fabulous work!!👏👏👏👏
Awesome job! Love it!
So methodical. It really pays to think things thru before proceeding and having the imagination to know how to fix issues that may arise. Great job!
That’s so awesome❤
Loved it. But, 1. pop rivets instead of bolts & nuts. 2. the gasket seam would have been better on the bottom. 3. stick the gasket together with rubber adhesive (inner tube glue). 4. a threshold, so that a accidently misplaced step doesn't rip through the gasket. 5. while the back of the cab was exposed, it would have been good to screw some angle iron supports to it, to stiffen the back so it doesn't rattle. Anyways these are just some suggestions. I hope their of some help. p.s. I'm glad Elizabeth is on the mend. Keep it up. ❤

Wow another great job done! Elizabeth you are looking so great! Glad your camper van is coming together! I have always wanted one.
Big step forward and exciting. Years ago when I had a window in the pickup and the cap, I had a blowup clear gasket that sealed between the two. It was a nice feature.
I really enjoyed this. High level of creative work. Well done.
Amazing job!! Really looking like your RV is happening.
Boy, that was a job! It looks great and it is truly transforming into your own personalized RV!👍🏼😊 Have a blessed weekend🙏❤️
Good Job Bill - (Remembering sooo many years ago when I cut a hole in my van roof for a vent.)
We had one of those gaskets on our double cab pickup window pass thru WAY back in the 70's to allow us (the kids-6 in total) to move from the bed of the truck (with a cap) into the truck cab- I imagine they've improved them with time-made life so much easier!
Wow! My husband is talented like you. looks great! God bless you both.

What a project! That was fun to watch and go through your thinking process of options. Great job! Ha! ….You Tube University!
Great instructional video! I had wondered how to do that. It really makes a nice difference, it is one of the reasons I am leaning towards either a van or box truck. The ability to get in the driver"s seat without going outside. In case of rain or even just to be able to drive off in case of emergency.
How amazingly talented you are! Beautiful job! Your knee must be well healed to be able to navigate like you are 🤗

Very clever operation Bill, I enjoyed watching this gasket caper! Are you going to finish out the inside with any kind of wood tongue and grove or ship lap to “warm up “ the inside of the box; there are so many neat finishes that you can do, including ridged vinyl flooring that coordinates with your cab color?!
@LiveSimpleLiveFree

Finishing the interior walls and ceiling is still a long way off, and the material we use is still to be determined. As you say, there are many options.
Bill, you can do ANYTHING!! I can’t believe you can cut that access door!! ❤ My husband could do anything, too!
Always exciting to wake up to a Bill and Elizabeth video Day. Bill, you are a genius always finding a way to make things work. Thinking out of the Box. Only problem, NO Carley seat. Love you two.❤
Looks cool!! :)
Yahoooooooooooooooo No worries after all! I knew you had this all the time. The anxiety is what kept you hesitant but knowing your background in building and being a truck driver for a time I knew you could get this no problem. Thrilled for you and Elizabeth. Absolutely thrilled! Perhaps some waterproof caulking inside that rubber gasket and screws will give some more reassurance of no leaking as you mentioned prior. Excellent job and I can tell you both are over the moon with it.......rightfully so! Good going and no more sleepless nights to worry about. :-) Great job and fun video!!! Blessings and have a great weekend and new week!!!!
Well done! Some automotive weather strip adhesive would work great for bonding that seam together. It's pretty strong stuff.

I was thinking the same as well as some black gorilla tape over the top to keep it smoother and not catch on clothing as much.
Looks like a good plan but I wold of sealed that plywood edge with a sealer of some type, maybe some latex caulk to stick that gasket end down and a glue designed for rubber perhaps then put a couple self tapping screws just in the rubber to hold it in place oe even some binder clips that will just squeeze the two pieces together you can get those binder clips at an office supply store they are pretty stoun
Very informative on the gasket. Didn't know there was such a thing. Gave me a solution to a future application for something I am considering. About the seam. There is a product called flex seal. Not sure if they make a glue. If you don't know about this product maybe you could look into it. Best!
