    I remember coming across your last lifting video and it was pretty good, but now I'm subscribing for this next one! I have a Nissan Juke that I'm building for offroad, and I get a lot of information from people modding Subarus since the chassis and subframe designs have a lot in common. I'm thinking about having a 2" subframe lift fabricated for my vehicle, but without a video like this I wouldn't know what to expect or plan for. Well documented and detailed videos on the more aggressive subframe lifts on unibody cars are also very hard to come by.

    I'm amazed that it's only been in fairly recent times that companies have started to manufacture these lift kits. I did my first lift on an old brumby back around 1996. Back then you couldn't buy stuff off the shelf. It was pretty much fabricate everything yourself. Even the rear lsd was sourced from a nissan, with custom diff brackets ,cv's and drive flanges. Lsd's where available from the turbo Leone, but where very expensive and hard to find second hand. It's been 20 years since I've owned a Subaru, but your videos have inspired me to perhaps buy another one. These kits sure would make my job a lot easier the second time around too. Loving your videos mate. Keep up the good work 👍

    Damn that's a bummer the spark plugs are so blocked. Those things are already hard enough to get to! I would usually pull an engine mount and jack the engine up a bit to access them more easily. Maybe if you remove both the engine mount bolts you can jack it up higher? At least it's not turbo. Modified turbo EJ engines go through spark plugs like crazy! Thanks for making the video! Looks nice

I’ve never had a problem. though.. it is scary dropping a socket into the engine without anything attached

    I like how you converted metric to freedom units for us USA people but the title of the video was in inches with no conversion. (: For rough idea calculations in the field I've always used 25mm per inch, 4 liters per gallon, and 2/3rds miles per kilometer. None are exact but give you a good idea of scale if you're unable to do the correct calculation right then. As far as the spark plugs you can try disconnecting the dog bone and the rear transmission mount and tilting the engine up. I've heard of Outback guys doing that before. Could you route the exhaust above the sub frame with the new space you've created?

  • @ignitionoffroad5028

    @ignitionoffroad5028

    4 жыл бұрын

    bruceyyyyy yeah, the whole metric/imperial gets a bit confusing. Lift kits are sold in imperial measurements, but otherwise we use metric in Aus. That’s sounds like a lot of work for the spark plugs but a good idea non the less. And as for the exhaust, it can 100% be tucked under the subframe now

    Great video, I am thinking to buy a Subaru Forester like yours and I would like to lift it like yours. When you lower the subframe what happen with the steering wheel bar and the transmission stick, it's not affected because the subframe change ?

    The SG forester is a great Subaru platform to modify for off-roading! The kit came with a steering shaft extension so no issues there, however there was no extension for the gear stick. While the connecting shaft between the gear stick and transmission did change its angle, there was no effect on shifting performance.

    Hey mate just wondering how you are going to insure it now that it has the 4" lift? And was wondering if you've looked into getting it engineered? I'm in Victoria as well and looking at buying a sg with a 5" lift but just worried about those things and cops haha

  • @ignitionoffroad5028

    I have looked into getting the lift engineered. My research suggests it will cost somewhere around $1500 to get it done, mainly as they need to hire a track to do the swerve test. I have contacted 2 engineers so far and been turned down by both. Insurance wise, my previous 2.5/3" kit wasn't legal either. I do 3rd party fire and theft and just hope they don't have to look at my car if anything ever happens... I do want it engineered though to be able to enjoy the car without the legal hassle

    Anything over 2” is a custom order you have to contact them. Their website is very outdated and not very user friendly which is unfortunate for someone who provides such an amazing service. In regards to wheel, yes I’m thinking of going up to 235/75r15 from my current 215/75r15. The room is definitely there now just a matter of saving up for the new tyres. I wouldn’t go bigger then that size though as you will lose to much drivability

    If you just have 4” strut top spacers without the subframe spacers, you will just destroy the drive shafts with the angle. 2.5” is the most you will be able to lift a Subaru to increase ground clearance without larger tires.

    Perhaps it is a different country thing, but in America, a body spacer is only usable on a frame and body vehicle. On a unibody vehicle it is all suspension... even if you drop brackets it is not considered a body lift... by legal standards here. Might be the same there as we both draw our legal system from England.

    crazyt1ger08 the car caught on fire so I used the opportunity and replaced it with a turbo model of the same year, for more power and I can still use the same components. • @ignitionoffroad5028

    scal man yes I lost ground clearance. I’ve done this on purpose to relax the CV angles a bit. Yes a 4” lift is illegal in my state, but it can be engineered and that is what I plan on doing. My old setup with the 2.5/3” lift was also illegal so it’s not like much has changed in the legality department.

    @@ignitionoffroad5028 but any engineering with subframes and other parts are illegal as well, so how does that changes anything. i would cover that front now more from sides too and make extra skid plate so there wouldnt be any hard step there to hit more like smooth sliding over. but if you needed 4'' lift then its fine i guess. shame that ground clearance didint changed with that, unless you can put there larger wheels. does it take larger wheels ? i put 28.5' on my lifted outback 05.
