Hi. I see your using the 90 degree adapter you got it right. one problem you should have used a SAMSUNG drive they have there free cloning software. your mod would be easyer .

Did you find that the case wouldn't close flush without the screws? I installed one with a 1.5mm heatsink and the case will screw flush but without the screws it's forced open a little

You should peel off that blue plastic on thermal pad on your SSD heatsink for better thermals

Why not just use the 2230? I bought a 2tb 2230 works great

What ssd did you have? Is it double sided? Because I had an ssd 2TB from sabrent and it was double sided. You can use 2230, but 2280 has some advantages: 1. Price: you can put 4TB with the same money paid for 2TB 2230. 2. As I said, I think all 2TB 2230 models are double sided. They will have higher temperatures than 2280 and in longer gameplay sessions that means lower performance compared with 2280. 3. 2280 are very easy to find and cheap. Everyone is free to choose, it’s nice to have options.

@MGTMaxGamesTech I bought the Micron 2230 ssd model that Asus shipped on my R9 version, except the storage was 2tb instead of the 500gb default. Now for this particular model I did not see any chips mounted on the bottom side. It's around 200usd which in my opinion is still fine compared to Crucial or other premium brands. That go above 300usd. But I can see this as a cheaper option if you have spare 2280 drive around. Mind everyone that if it's PCiE3.0 it doesn't utilize the max capability of the Ally which is 4.0

Although I really can't recommend anything that involves breaking pieces from your ROG, I mean honestly always had a problem breaking expensive hardware.

If you want to use an SD card then don't bother with the original ally 😅

I decided to stay with the internal storage and instead got a 4tb nvme ssd with an external usb c connector.

It’s ok but not the best variant: not so portable; you need to change the official charger to a more powerful one because you won’t get enough W from it to support turbo mode; you need a dock if you want to charge while using external ssd.
