Installing 13 Miles of Drainage Tile on the Farm!
Installing 70K ft of Drainage Tile! Last video we finished installing on the Mains, and this video we're installing all of the laterals which run up and down the field and dump into the 8 inch main. The 8 inch main dumps into the creek next to the field. From start to finish this project took us 7 full days. Was super rewarding, and excited to see the results come growing season! This will make a drastic improvement to this farm. Most of these soils have potential but we're limited due to heavy soil with a high water table. Thank for watching! S/O to Ben, Dad, Spencer & Buch for helping! Took a lot of labor!

My 5 year old immediately recognized Buch’s voice and ran in from the other room. He was blown away to find out you and Buch are real people and not animated characters like in the Squad videos 😂

Don’t know if you read these comments posted later/ but this is the perfect time to set up a “Meter Stand” for your planter when you get ready for Planter prep. You would be hugely impressed with the results of a “Meter Stand” and the $$$ it puts in your pocket with improved yields.
Nicely done. Just remember it might take a year or 2 for those tile to start working properly and before you start seeing all the benefits
Just a little piece of advice even tho it's too late now, but when you make your lateral connections you should use a T- connection. Everytime you drill into the main and stick that internal coupler in there it restricts the flow of the main.
Well that’s spectacular Spencer for ya thanks buch for helping we love you also buch is very captivating and photogenic. We need to get a picture of the three you together
It’s nice to see Buch out there with y’all
It's awesome how you have friends to help you with all this
Looks great! Tile is, in my opinion, the best investment you can make on your farm.
Looks great I find usually when land is tiled it takes two crops to really see the benefit should make big difference.
Grant! Im here to complain! We Need more Videos! This last WAIT was really rough! ;) Ok seriously tho, love your videos man and keep on keeping on! I understand making videos is alot of work!! I used to farm so watching You, Larson farms, Millennial Farmer, Laura Farm, Welker Farms, I live through you guys now! Please remember to stay safe and stay Alert! God Bless

Nice article in the February issue of Successful Farming! Congratulations!
cant wait to see more.
Pretty jealous about the soil. We need to put down a layer of gravel before putting the pipe down and then cover it with gravel to prevent the fine soil to get in the tile. This looks super easy

You can buy tile with finer slits, and they also sell tile wrapped in fabric for especially silty soils.

@@kirkadkisson Yea, I've seen those tiles available here also. I know some farmers that produce vegetables used them instead of the regular ones.
Me and my dad are gonna start on our overphlow pipe when it drys out over in nz
My family just tiled some and we used our mini Excavator. To tile as much as you did it would take a few months 😆
Been missing your real farming videos Grant. Hope everything is going good for you

Done lots of tileing in the past. U must have a plan of attack wich you guy's have alot of people when they get stuck will try to pick the plow up a bit wich is the worst thing u can do and you are not going to have a functional tile. They way you guy's are doi g it is the Wright way. Awesome stuff
Chisel plow between each tile line. Then work it down with the cultivator
Hey Grant! When can we expect a new video from you guys? Happy Easter.
Grant/Spencer, great channel. I notice the other you tube farmers put talc on their seed. Maybe this can reduce your doubles from the corn planter.
cant wait for the tillage video!:)

Grain storage will pay for itself because it gives you more options during harvest because there is times when you can harvest and everything is closed and also in the right year it will make a difference in your profile line
🔥🔥 BADASS 🤘🤘
That's awesome 👌
Hope your doing good Grant
Where u been hope all well
Hi Grant, l was told that old clay tiles will still attract water but actually create wet areas because the pipe is,nt emptying at the end, l can,t suggest a simple way to dig them up unless you can rip below the level of the old clay tiles using gps and your new tile map as a guide for avoiding damaging your new tile system maybe?
@granthilbert5632
Жыл бұрын
We went and plugged the old tile main with concrete. So basically none of the water will exit the old tile system anymore and will not create sink holes👍
Hey Grant, you hay some dirt or something on your lip there, might want to take a look. 😆
I feel like tires wouldn’t have had as much of an issue here as the tracks did on that case…but who knows.
do you think you will think about buying any new tractors or equipment this year?
Go check out the orthman strip till booth
It’s the second randy the master pipelayer form millennial farms
good video
You should put duals on the front of the 8110
You would of thought they would of had GPS dialed in perfect back in the 50s
I think it's cool that you went from the video game to real life. I have been watching you play farming simulator since fs19 came out.

I think you forgot to include the clip of you on your knees asking me to stay after the "3" days HAHA
I know he likes that red paint (case/farmall/:no cop co stop
Glad your back Grant can’t wait see waft happens this year on the farm
Hey Grant, if you see this, I have a question. When do you usually start planting. Cus this class I’m taking is saying stuff and it doesn’t sound right.
To be honest when i worked for a farmer i never had luck with tracked vehicles in mud

When did you get a quad trac
Lol now try that with out all that equipment and just a backhoe and a shovel and your hands that’s what we had to do and we laid over 800ft of it
That excavator said no I don’t wanna start this morning
Question with the tiles if how dose it collect the water and funnel it out?
Are you going to the National Farm Machinery Show any of the days?
Luke 9:23 (KJV) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:24 (KJV) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Wow, I've never been around pattern tiling, only mains, and, enough tile to get our equipment through as a kid. The logic/agronomy theory case for pattern tiling makes a lot of sense. Does the tile start running immediately? Water coming out of the outlet? How long does it take the wet spots to dry-up?
@waynejones5239

Depends on how wet it is

Hi squad
Is there any other attachment that you can use to close the tile? Looks like they did an excellent job. Two-and-a-half - 3 ft in the ground is that normal to put drain tile? * The National Farmers Show starts this Wednesday! Are you planning to attend or have too much work on the farm? They should have it back to normal this year. First year, I'm going to be attending.

We'll be there👍 3ft is a bit shallow, but will work good in this type of soil.

You can vary your spacing depending on how deep you go. Some laterals will be 2.5' on one end and 5.5' on the other, it all depends on your grade and the field topography.
When are you going to get a another tractor
The finish is so cool. Do they all drain out in same area or different areas? Did you go check out the outlet when you were done to see how much drainage?
@granthilbert5632

They all drained out into the creek which runs right next to the farm👍
Grant, recently I figured out the career I want to be a military police officer and a State Trooper can’t work out because of medical issues. I was thinking about starting a farm but don’t know how, could you give me some guidance?
Grant are you planning on to buy more tractors for your farm
how many acres do you farm? how much of it is now drained with this project done?
Did you guys like the farm show
For your the Squad Chanel, Do You Play On Xbox 1? And what map do you prefer to use for FS 22?

@@granthilbert5632 Id hold off on the lime for a year until that tile gets a chance to work. We did some of that and actually raised the pH higher than we needed to.
What county in iowa is this??? I lived in Madison off the interstate in st Charles
Grant, when did you actually install this drainage, in the video you mention "fall"?
@granthilbert5632
Жыл бұрын
Installed in late fall/early winter.
Have you done the math? How many seasons until it pays for itself. I know this depends on how much better your yield is. But just a ballpark.
@granthilbert5632
Жыл бұрын
Roughly 2-3 give or take. Some area of the field will be 2 years. Really depends on commodity prices though. For reference I had 80 bushel corn in 22 acre field this year. Meanwhile some tiled parts of field were 200+ bushels.
How much did it cost to start up you’re farm?
Hi grant
Is that Iowanfarmer?
