It didn't work for me on Windows 7 guest operating system - VMWare Tools option is still grayed out. Any suggestions on how to remedy the situation? Thank you.

I don't know if you still need an answer but switching off "connect at power on" for both CD and Floppy Disk fixed the issue for me.
