    Worked for me!! My house only had 2 wires a blue and a beige-ish color which I'm assuming used to be white lol. So I just left the green one from the fan covered and put a plastic tip on it just in case, and the blue one from my house was the hot one. And it's working marvelously.

    @@savemoneydiy1462 Hi Mike, I can't believe this was two years ago. Crazy. Anyhow, I have a question, hopefully you see this. The fan in my daughter's room seems to be slowing down. I just walked in there a minute ago and although it was set to high it seemed as if it was moving at the lowest or close to it. Any idea why it would do that? Could it be a loose wire or maybe just the fan itself. I'm not sure where to start and the thought of taking it all apart is 😫😫😫 Lol

  • @savemoneydiy1462

    @savemoneydiy1462

    What kind of wall switch are you using…just on/off or does it have multiple fan speeds on your wall switch? We have multiple speeds on our switch, and once it looked like our fan was slower even on the high setting. Turned out it was because the pull chain for the fan had to be kept on high speed position, but it had been pulled and was on lower speed. If that’s the case -Turn wall switch to high -Reset the chain to off, then pull once more to be in high speed position If not that, it may be the fan motor getting weaker. Could it be wiring? Maybe but I kind of doubt it. Wiring tends to be either totally working or not at all. I hope this helps!

    @@savemoneydiy1462 Ugh, completely forgot I turned off my notifications for KZread so I missed this earlier. Sorry. It's just a regular on/off switch. After a little research I thought maybe it was the bearings, although I never in my life remember having to lubricate a ceiling fan. But, who knows, so I tried that with a TINY bit of motor oil. 😬 But, although the fan seemed to turn smoother after a while of being on high it just completely stopped. I left it off most of the day. I do think the motor definitely has an issue b/c I'm pretty sure I did the wiring good. Thank you for the response, appreciate you!

    If your circuit breaker panel has breakers labeled for what area of the house they control, that really helps. Also test switches and outlets in the room after the breaker is off to verify there is no power to the room. Otherwise, you can turn all breakers off and that way you will be sure you’re safe. This was very helpful, however I would like to add something. Once the wiring part is finished and you are ready to mount the motor, the side that’s hanging while you finish the wiring STAYS in that hole and mounts to the bracket underneath, while the other side with 2 holes in the motor mount attaches on the underside, or the floor side. I finished the wiring, then took motor mount out because I thought both sides attached on the underside of the mounting bracket. In doing this the hanging side that goes into the hole to hang, which only has one attaching screw, would not tighten. After watching this video closely, I saw that you never removed the fan mount from the hanging hole, and therefore the receiving thread for the screw was in the correct position and it tightened right up. Initially I thought the receiving hole had been stripped at the factory, but not so. This was an easy mistake to make, you would think the fan would mount on the same side of the bracket, but it clearly does not. I hope I explained this clearly, I just want to save some one else from the same aggravation I experienced. Videos are helpful, but some things you just have to figure out yourself

    Good eye, yes the “one-screw” side of the mount stays above the bracket while the “two-screw” side stays below the bracket. Thanks for pointing that out!

    I connected everything exactly as described. (2 switches). I replaced a prior ceiling fan with light. I have 2 switches on the wall. 1 is to turn on/off the light which works fine. The second light switch is SUPPOSED to turn on/off the fan but it does nothing. The fan is ALWAYS on. The ONLY way to shut off the fan is to pull the string. The wall switch does nothing. I even just replaced the wall switch and the exact same thing is happening? Any ideas??

    Hi Mike. I want to thank you for your video but I have a couple questions that you might be able to answer. I do not have a ceiling light or any electrical supply except for plugs in the wall. I want to connect the fan with a "swag" type cord that plugs into the wall. Does this particular fan haave that cord? How do I hook this fan up using a swag plug in?

    A multimeter may help figure out what these wires do. Here’s what I would try, though as soon as I got uncomfortable with it I would call for an electrician, so proceed with caution and at your own risk. Also risk of shorting out the fan and breaking it if wires are connected wrong, so again proceed at your own risk. With power on to the room (careful!) you can test each wire. (Remember to turn the breaker off again before connecting wires later.) In general, you want to find the wires that are always hot - my guess it is the black one and one of the white ones, but could be wrong. If black is always hot, connect that to fan’s black wire. If one white is always hot, connect fan’s white to that one. If one white is hot only when wall switch is on, connect fan’s blue and red wires to that one. If a wire from the ceiling is never hot that is likely your ground. If no ground, take a look at these, and you may find other helpful info too. Good luck and be safe. diy.stackexchange.com/questions/29459/what-do-i-do-if-there-are-only-two-wires-coming-from-my-ceiling-electrical-box www.google.com/amp/s/answers.yahoo.com/amp/qna/20100406090119AAldgnb

    Hi we have both in our house and are happy with both. The 42" Walmart Mainstays we have in three rooms that are about 10x11 feet each. It's good for this size of room. The 52" Armitage is in a room that is about 15x18 feet. We first had the 42" Mainstays in this room, but it didn't blow the air around enough so we traded for the larger 52" Armitage.

  • @savemoneydiy1462

    Good question. The power only needs to be off in the room where you’re working. There should be one circuit breaker that will shut off everything in that room. Here’s a test you can do: After you turn off the breaker, try to turn something on in the room...if nothing turns on then the correct breaker should be off.

    Can you install the bracket directly onto the ceiling or you need to mount it to the junction box?

  • @savemoneydiy1462

    @savemoneydiy1462

    3 жыл бұрын

    The bracket needs something sturdy to attach to. Attaching just to a drywall ceiling is a definite no-go. Need a joist or something sturdy. But the junction box is also important for electrical reasons. It helps protect against fire risk in case your wiring ever comes loose. Check this out on junction boxes: diy.stackexchange.com/questions/82173/mount-ceiling-fan-without-electrical-box

    The fan doesn't work unless I flip the wall switch to on . So I have to use the pull chain to turn off light to use just the fan or visa versa. Any ideas There is a red wire also in the ceiling box and only one wall switch. I have same setup in two other rooms and I don't have this problem. Any ideas? Thank you.

  • @savemoneydiy1462

    @savemoneydiy1462

    The way you describe it pulling the chains for either light or fan is how I would expect it to work with a single wall switch, sounds like it’s working as intended. Wondering how your other rooms are wired...does the fan turn on without the wall switch turned on? It has to draw power from somewhere, maybe it’s wired to a second switch that’s on or some kind of active connection always on without a switch? But the red wire in ceiling box is for the ceiling fan’s light, which you use if the light and fan will be controlled separately (like a combo switch). I didn’t put pics of switches in this video, but there are in my other video, start at 3:19 kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6VpzrKkhtfgdLQ.html Sorry don’t have a complete answer for you but hope it all works out. Let us know if you figure something out. Thanks!

Difference is the fan I can't control is in Florida room which was an addition to the house some years ago. Well it's not a critical issue, So I'll leave it as is. Just though there might be a simple solution. Once again Thank You :)

  • @savemoneydiy1462

    @savemoneydiy1462

    One pull chain is for the fan, the other is for the light. If your fan is on low speed, pull the fan chain and it should slow down until it stops. Pull again for high speed. Again for medium. Again for back to low. If that doesn’t work, do you have a dimmer switch? If so, turn it all the way up then try the chain again. If still no, you may have a problem with the fan.

    Bro, I tried and it was so simple to install. But when I turned on the fan and light, i could see a spark and it shorts. Why so? One update, my house wires are so heavy. So not sure even after I tug them it touches and shorts. Or could that be fans problem? It’s brand new though.

  • @savemoneydiy1462

    Hmm sounds like wires are hooked up wrong? Sounds like not your fault though. House wire colors may be wrong - like your black house wire is actually a white and vice-versa? Exchange the fan just tell the store you installed exactly like instructions said and it didn’t work. I would then get a pro to install the new one. Tell them what happened with the first fan.

    Huh not sure. Sounds like your room and other side of basement are on different breakers, but might as well check the breakers for any that tripped. Did you shut off the breaker before installing the fan? Just wondering if maybe the breaker next to it is the one for the other side of the basement, and accidentally that breaker was shut off while you were doing things?
