Install Floating Shelf in Concrete How to D.I.Y Hanging Shelves.

Hang Install Floating Shelf or shelves using drywall concrete anchors.
Anchors can be purchased here:
www.amazon.com...
Floating shelf here:
www.amazon.com...
This video illustrates how to hang a floating shelf onto a concrete wall using plastic expansion anchors.
There are several types of expansion anchors offered by different companies. There are lead expansion anchors that some people prefer as that aren't easily broken.
If you have tried the drill a hole in concrete but barely scratch the surface or attach a screw into concrete with no results? This may be a lack of proper tools. The drill bit that is used to make holes in concrete in a masonry drill bit. This bit is even needed to attach Tapcons to concrete as the tapcon needs a predrilled hole to attach.
Expansion anchors will also work in drywall. I have used these anchors for over a decade and they are strong and long lasting. I have found that the best application on these anchors is to be used with mounting things that will not be moving much like paintings shelfs, hooks and wire clamps.
I hope this information has been useful. Thank you for watching.

    You helped a couple hang up shelves, you happened to be using the exact same type as floating shelf as we did (ours was from Ikea) so it was even better. We were struggling a lot Thank you so much!!! Suggestion: A video for removing the anchors and fixing the holes from a bodged shelf mounting attempt :D

Using a larger screw head and or washers will add a bit of strength preventing the possibility of the screw head slipping through the holes in the bracket. Basically a larger screw head and washer cover a larger surface area. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Drilling into concrete with a standard drill driver definitely takes some muscle but if you are limited to that type of drill (no hammer drill) then I would position myself so my chest was level with where I was drilling so I could lean into it with by body. That way the arms aren't doing all the work. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching.

  • @DoItWithDave

    Is it in drywall or concrete? For drywall at a minimum I'd suggest toggle anchors however attaching directly to the studs is the best wall to secure. If it's concrete and your still getting the tilt you may want to install new plastic anchors or larger ones. If the hole gets bored out too much the anchor won't hold.

  • @DoItWithDave

    @DoItWithDave

    I'm assuming you are using a concrete drill bit, if not you definitely need one for the project your working on. If you are using a concrete drill bit with no success it is possible that the hole you are attempting to drill has a piece of rebar (steel) exactly where you are drilling. You could try drilling a new hole an inch or so next to the one you already started. Other than that I'm not sure what could be stopping you from making the hole. Also are you using a hammer drill or drill driver (standard drill)? Sometimes, especially when drilling into concrete upwards it can take a bit of elbow grease to get the hole drilled. With a drill driver you will need to push and pull back the bit as you drill and tap it in the hole to help break through the concrete. I hope this helps. Let me know.

    @@DoItWithDave Thank you so much for responding.. Yes I am using a concrete drill bit in addition to the "hammer setting". You're probably right about the "steel insert" because it definitely feels like a "solid barrier" preventing me from drilling further. I'll try drilling a bit further over. Hopefully this will do the trick. Again thanks for responding so quickly.

  • @DoItWithDave

    @DoItWithDave

    6 жыл бұрын

    Natividad Torres from what you posted it seems like you had two separate issues with the ancors. First for the concrete you definitely need the correct drill bit or else it will just burn, dull and break it. Sometimes you may hit rebar (steel) in the concrete and that will definitely burn out a even a concrete bit. If you see smoke or the bit turning red you may need to move the hole to the left or right as steel usual runs up and down. For the drywall a floating shelve can be a nice thing to install however because drywall is a finish product it won't hold a lot of weight before an ancor starts to pull out and making a big hole in the drywall. Floating shelves in drywall is good when they are small and or won't have alot of weight on it. If you want to hang a floating shelve on drywall you may want to get a stud finder and drill screws directly into the wood or metal studs depending on what is behind the drywall. I hope this helps.

    @@adwaitmore7844 does "no back ply" mean no bracket/mounting arm? If so I'll assume the back of the unit has openings with a metal plate that is bigger on the bottom and smaller on the top. If that's the case you'd just install the anchors at the correct positions where the mounting holes are and the unit should hang fine. One quick thing. Depending on how high you'll be hanging the unit, if you have small children around they may try to climb it and depending on how much weight is already being held up, could pull out of the wall and possibly do so serious damage to a kid. If you have kids around it should be high enough so they don't can't physically reach the unit. All in a the anchors being installed in concrete are very secure based on weight being held up, not being held in from moving away from the wall.

You want the hole to be wide enough for the anchor body to slip into the hole and thin enough for the anchor lip to touch the face of the surface you'll be drilling into.

    If you are going to be using it a lot then I'd suggest a hammer drill, however if you are only looking to hang this one thing then a regular drill driver will work as long as you get a ( masonry drill bit ). The only difference between the two drills is the Hammer drill has a setting specifically for concrete drilling, and operates as a drill driver. If you are just going to use the drill occasionally then you can go cheap on the brand. I hope this helps.

A stud finder should work even a magnet could help by placing and removing it on different locations you should get it to hold itself on the wall once it contacts with a drywall screw. Also outlet boxes here are normally attached to the studs so you could use that as a way to start from. Just trying to be helpful if possible. I'm I'm Florida however it's a big state lol. Are you going into concrete or a different material? If it's concrete you need the concrete drill bit, other bits won't work. If you are going into drywall you need to locate the studs and attach to them. If your shelf won't be holding an extremely heavy load you can use toggle anchors for drywall, they are the strongest option for drywall. I hope this helps.
