Not code requirement, but many framers like to land the joints of the second top plate on top of a joist so that the space between studs is free of nails/screws for drilling the holes for wiring, HVAC, plumbing, etc. Also, that was a nice job of "stitching" the top plates into alignment.

That does make sense. So far, with the building that I'm making, I don't think it's gonna make much of a difference.

@sethcraftworkshop it's not too late, how far ahead of the video is the build? Think about siding/sheathing...2 3/8 ring shank work well in a framing nailer.

This video series is likely to get a bunch of KZread watchers that have never swung a hammer. So a dedicated top plate video is needed.

In the other channel I saw the building is allready much further along. How long did It take you to complete all these steps? Because we see 1 video a week, so difficult to estimate how fast the build is going.

Looks like I setup batter boards may 23rd. So in 3 months I am now working on insulation and interior wall sheathing. Some weeks I don't do much and others I work 40 hours. With dedication and child care I could have built this in 60 days.

uhhh.... this is framing 101. Did you really not know this?

Nice informative video. You're showing and explaining what most assume we novices/beginners should know. Thanks for not skipping the basics. Now, I am more informed about the purpose and the placement of the 'Double Top Plate'. 🫡

Great feedback! A few have commented that this is basic framing but I say not every beginner will know why.
