Install a cloakroom toilet: part one

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I am installing a "Cloakroom Toilet". There was a space between the stairs and kitchen so my daughter asked about a down stairs toilet! She didn't want a saniflo but, a full working flushing toilet. I said, we can put a new drain through the kitchen and connect it to the outside soil stack. In this first video I am putting in the drains toilet!

Just think a few issues should highlighted to those thinking of doing the same. 1) The new length of soil pipe should be accessed for rodding. Using a bend with rod access would have easily made that possible. 2) Burying water pipe connectors should always be avoided, especially plastic push fit 3) Push fit elbow fitting under the slab isn't a good idea, they can and do fail which means the floor coming up again 4) Building control must be involved with change of use of room in this way, and they must see evidence of correct construction including fall.

We are having similar work done. Our soil pipe is internal and is in the middle of our dining room boxed up. The specialist said we can link pipe to the stack 1.2 metres deep slope to our closet under stairs. I'm a bit scared as they need to make rough 4 meters of digging. Being inside the house it's making me nervous. They are fully insured and are registered with trading standards. They said they have scanning machines to check in case any pipes under the concrete. Is there anything else I need to consider?

Looks a good job that chris. I saw on another video where the soil pipe should have a horizontal drop of 1 in 40, is that right, so that the solids get taken away by the water better? I've also a metal soil pipe but theres a small hole where its corroded a little bit right where its going into the ground at the bottom, so i'm thinking i could use a plastic piece like what you've done there to repair the bottom section instead of a complete new plastic soil pipe.

  • @jamesfisher5391

Nice solution. Saniflos are shite. You need some rodding/access on the base of the stack and the 4 inch bend. The branch pipe looks like it could be over the maximum permitted length; 6 meters I believe for 4 inch. If you sleeve the hot and cold pipe work it's then removable and gets you around the water regs, I'd insulate swell - you don't want the hot water warming the cold water or you have a potential for pathogens. If your adding a toilet part G says you need a wash basin too. Theres some chat about door ways and ventilation as well. Just a little nod from a plumber to a builder, I'm sure you've got covered though.

If you ever bury water pipework in a screed, hot or cold, and it is not easily or readily accessible by removing the surface covering it must be ducted with no fittings. Last thing the homeowner will want is that speedfit elbow to be leaking in the floor. You can get pipe-in-pipe for this purpose, if it's not in a chase etc. Water Regs cover all this, the amount of leaks I've been to where a builder did the plumbing, to a kitchen island or wherever the last 10yrs is unreal. So are the prices to cure usually.

Blimey, a real live ‘cowboy’...I’ve never seen anyone document such a bad job...not only does it not comply with building regs, the workmanship is appalling...don’t employ this bloke, it is clear he has no idea how to do this job correctly...where the hell do they find these people....😳

Colin M if it was a floating pad then maybe! But drilling rebar into existing concrete would help to strengthen it again, if like this property it has footings then no it’s a box on footings what’s in the middle (as long as it’s not a supporting wall) has no structural purpose. I believe that’s how it is, I’m sure someone will say different.
