Tarja I do not know what happens in festivals and dvds your vocals always sound unbalanced and way off, even flat at times, that goat sound.... ACT II was a sheer example of that. Your instagram lives showcase your vocals infinitely better than these professional live recording that everyone will watch and judge you for, when your vocals are much better and so much more tuned with just you and the piano... I hope the final product tweaks it a bit.

Hi Ligeia Noire, How are you? I think what you mean with those "goaty sounds" is some moments when Tarja transitions from her Lower registers to her Mid registers... for exemple it happens in some live performances of Victim of Ritual when she says the word "tragical" in the chorus and she is just ascending from her lower ("hysterical") to her mid voice ("victim of")... BUT the what really questions me about that subject is the Fact that I heard her sing that same part of the song Live WITHOUT that "goaty sound" in that transition part ("tragical"). And this same situation applies on Other different songs... the result depends on the performance, so I came to the conclusion that it might be a question of Foccusing more on the vocal delivery (and sometimes a bit less on moving all around and jumping). I believe that when Tarja Turunen is really foccused 100% on her vocals she can easily avoid those harder transitions, being the perfect exemples of this statement her Classical concerts: She never does that kind of sound on those... SO, as you wrote, I really wish that Tarja doesn't mind at all of sounding "more classical" in her singing even if it is a Rock/Metal concert... because We, Fans, LOVE the more "Classical" side of her voice too (even If I find her Lower chesty register haunting and great too! @@soundslikeblue Indeed, I agree wholeheartedly, I absolutely love her chest voice, I have actually just watched a video where a fan compiled Tarja's best chest and belting moments and it is amazing how good and dark her chest register is. Every single person that thinks she is not versatile should watch it. However, I am not a hypocrite or a blind fan and Tarja still has some issues with the contemporary singing that started with Once as she tried a different approach, which is, as you said the transition from chest to head or from popular singing to classical singing, I would say Simone Simmons is probably the all time best and smother at doing the shift, she has so much ease that you barely even know how she does it. Tarja comes from the other side, she started with classical and now needs to do the opposite and sing popular and that is hard and to make things harder, her chest voice is dark, low and metallic that when she shifts to head voice you have that bridge, that breathy tone, that I call goaty tone that makes it all the more obvious, it is just such a contrast, I love her chest and head register, I simply love it, the breathy tone, witchy at times, so present in Die alive is what I dislike. I can live with that though, she has come a long way and I think she is finding her balance.
