A fortune must have been lavished upon this brilliant performance. The conductor and his orchestra approach the flawless. The soloist voices are superb, especially the basso with his wonderful sense of the dramatic. The male soloist singers all have excellent diction and vocalisation. Camera-work was unusually good, along with sound-recording. Saul is amongst Handel's very best, with its rich and varied instrumentation. The tempos-so often mishandled these days-are executed close to,"PERFECT".

The tenor is very good, but the counter-tenor Paul Esswood is a legend and a delight to experience.

What is the name of this chorus and orchestra? I think this is really great. I love Handel, and I love this oratorio. I will always be a friend of Israel, even though I also am a Wagner-fan. Yes, Wagner was an anti-semite, but that's because of the crazy times he lived in. Everybody is a product of his or hers own time.

I'm generally adverse to countertenor parts and this is no exception. Yes i know....Handel devised the part of David for a contralto/countertenor and I normally hearing Baroque with original instruments and performances the way the composer intended. However, countertenor parts don't have the same effect as an alto. It's something about a man singing in a woman's range that sounds forced. No offense to the countertenor here as he was quite good. Just my humble opinion.

Not everybody is a product of his or her own time or thinks as if they are. Only an ahistoric view could maintain such an assertion. Were that true, there would never have been a Galileo, a Newton, a Darwin, etc..

I'm a friend of Israel, too. Friends don't let friends do things that are self-destructive and also harmful to others. The building of Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories is incredibly self-destructive and shows no compassion or concern for the Palestinians' welfare. There will be no end to the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) until Israel gets serious about allowing the Palestinians to have their own state. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Terrible acoustics for this bigger then life work. This should be performed in a live church or hall not in a library.
