Inspecting a Unique Country Coach Intrigue

I kind of needed a reason for a summertime break so when a viewer contacted me about inspecting a 2002 Country Coach Intrigue in Northern Arizona, I happily agreed. Little did I know that it would be a rare 32 foot long Country Coach Intrigue in very good shape. So join me as I discover yet again how well these Oregon RVs were made.
Thanks for watching!!

@@lutomson3496 Andrew isn't a technical guy, nor is he a mechanic. He is doing quite well with his KZread channel, bringing very nice, high end coaches to the public's eye. James is a mechanic and Master RV repair technician that brings us great videos of all types of RV's, shows us what to look for in a RV if we were to inspect one to prevent us from buying a problem.I have learned from both! Being an owner that does most of his own work, i get a lot from The AZ Expert. But, both gentlemen have a place in the RV world.

Appreciate the rare review of this unique coach. And thank you for the introduction to Andrew Steele's channel within an earlier video. Recently viewed his 2020 videos visiting the shuttered Country Coach manufacturing facility and interviewing the select dedicated individuals who built these coaches and are now caring for them in associated center(s) spin-offs. What an amazing enterprise of dedicated owners and employees who all gelled into one mindset to produce such fine conveyances. @@AZExpert hey bro just responding to your question, actually I've always hated Trucking I'm from Southwest Philly come from a huge Trucking family and constantly that's all that was talked about in our home! My dad was a truck driver all my brothers and one of my sisters are either owner operator truck drivers or Union truck drivers they always gave me shit about doing something else because you can make really great money Trucking so I went and opened up a cheese steak shop in Arizona and I grew it to six locations sadly the housing market collapsed and so did my business damn near homeless I sold the remaining two restaurants to my partner bought a rig and went out on my own I made an unspeakable amount of money doing something I loathe but luckily my wife went with me and we had some great times checking off bucket list like eat it all the Diners Drive-Ins and dives from the food Network visiting all the different museums and taking vacations and some amazing places, but because I was raised poor I never knew how to handle money so I made a lot of money but I don't seem to have much of it left LOL but in 6 weeks I'm leaving the trucking gig for good going to sell my house in Gilbert Arizona dying RV and tow a food truck 🚛 behind it and follow the art circuit I met a guy when I owned the restaurants that showed me a settlement he received from his CPA for 61,000 for a weekend at the Barrett-Jackson that's right I said a weekend so I think I'm going to give that a try sorry this was so long-winded but at the end of the the day I have nobody else to talk to but my wife and she is already hurt all my bullshit LOL anyway I love watching your work bro you have a great aura about you and you're very technical and nerdy which are my two favorite qualities in a human being that are sadly in very short supply, I'm glad you started a KZread channel let me know where I could do patreon or donate because the knowledge you're giving is valuable on a monetary level until then I'll be looking for your next video!

We have a Monaco Knight 31J shorty thirty footer. Table and Chairs across from the Jacknife sofa behind the co-pilot chair. Real wood, courion countertops, four burner stove , 3 way refrigerator, shower and sink in the middle with water closet for privacy. Two slides living and bedroom areas. Propane generator so we're all set for off grid and campground with 30 or 50 Amp service. We are in Phoenix and it took the I17 to Flagstaff passed all the commercial trucks along the way up the hill 😳 with her Cummings. She's a 2001 a built to last. We actually had a deposit down on a new FR3 gasser when we found this diesel pusher. After driving the gasser my husband said the engine was too noisy and unfortunately , everytime we turned a corner another piece of trim fell off during the test drive lol . The salesman was sitting behind us from LDLP saying oh..we will fix that, oh we will fix that too...even the facing off the refrigerator fell off They aren't made very well at all , certainly not made to last . BUT , I have to say the new interrers on these new coaches do not waste an inch of space ..in fact if they have two inches from top to bottom I guarentee it will probably have a door on it and a pull out spice rack. The FR3 was only 34 foot long and had a full bath and a half, king size bed with little night stands on each side . A electric drop down bed over the cockpit area. 50" TV with a fireplace ..and full storage space behind the TV . Wrap around booth and double recliners in the livingroom. The darn thing slept six and did I say it had a bath and a half? SEARIOUSLY four extra feet made a huge difference. Too bad the build quality for these rigs is so bad. They wanted to get it off the showroom floor and bring it outside for the new 2022 models to come in and gave us a smoking good deal of 98k ..we were looking for a pre-loved class A BUT everyplace was sold out because of the pandemic and everything for sale by owner around five year's old at every consignment place we looked from the far east valley to sun city wanted 10k more for them than their original purchase price. So when we were offered one off the inside showroom floor for around the same price as we were seeing the 5 to 7 year old class A and class C rigs WE signed on the dotted line and left a deposit before even driving it. If we hadn't seen the diesel pusher we would have probably ended up with a lemon..a well designed interrer lemon. We found our diesel pusher at World Wide RV in Mesa , my husband made an appointment to test drive it the very next morning after it posted that evening. SEARIOUSLY a line had formed to see it by the time the doors opened . Apparently SHORTYS are hard to find the salesman said even during the RV shortage of 2020 they could still locate a 40' class A across their many store locations but not a shorty always a shortage of shorty. We didn't know that, we were just limited to 34' or under based on what will fit in our driveway. I wanted to redesign it by removing the table and chairs and adding an entertainment center with a TV esculater and fireplace at the bottom with a posing recliners across from the TV and use TV trays whenever eating inside because really, when camping don't we all eat outside? But after joining a few class A retro sites people are saying don't remodel and never ruine your wood cabinets by painting them ..keep these classic RVs as original as possible. It's a personal decision. What I have seen in the last 6 months as moderator on a class A diesel pusher Facebook page is those CRAZY HIGH PRICES have dropped by ALOT people are still asking pandemic prices , however they aren't selling and they are dropping lower everyday. Prices will be at or below pandemic prices before too long . HECK pre pandemic a 20 year old class A could be bought between 15k & 20k Unless it was one of the super top of the line coaches. I love watching these videos about RVs on KZread it sure helped us know things to look for when we were searious.

You did them a big favor by saving the day when that mirror detached. Someone without "pro hands" very likely would have dropped it, or it would almost certainly have fallen off while driving down the road at some point. The headroom in these older units is the only thing keeping me from going from a unit of this era as I'm 6'4", and they seemed to go to the 6'10" ceilings around 2005-2007, then up to a full 7' in 2007-2008. These numbers are for the Monaco lineup, I think Country Coach went from 79" to 85" in 2005, at least in the Magna/Affinity series. Still waiting on my "perfect unit" to pass by!

That is beautiful for an older coach. You didn't cover tire date codes, engine oil level and service records. Also, generator hours, miles on the odometer, LED's or Incandescent ? I know it's not your place to ask the price, but it would be very interesting to know. Great inspection. Thanks for sharing James. 👍

Great example of the Country Coach quality. Still looks good after 20 years. The one thing to watch for with this vintage is clear coat peeling. The gov't made them change the formula, and I think 99-2002 had that problem.

Amazing what a life under a cover will do for a motorhome. I did an NADA lookup on the model... quite a bit lower than the asking price. I've noticed that most of the Oregon motorhomes go for 1.5 to 2 times the NADA. My wife and I have been looking at 2000 to 2008 Monaco gas-ers. Do they have the same quality as the diesels?

I accidentally met James recently at Cassones and voiced the same trepidation. He shared some about his camera equipment and it often looks more unsafe than it is for him personally. He's also very used to it and probably has faster correction reaction to an improper movement. It's still a 12 to 14 ft drop that I rarely risk --- hence, its more dangerous for me when I do.

Inspected a 1986 Country Coach 36’ for sale yesterday in Idaho. The shock was the price of $5K. Well, the driver’s side wall was wavy, several gauges not working, generator needed new gas fuel, and a few electrical issues had some concerns. But the engine cranked and ran perfectly, had 6 tires 2 years old, driven once a month, and a total mileage of 130K. The quality of interior was obvious. No leaks in the one piece aluminum roof. Hate to see it just sit there but the delam was a particular concern. Probably would make it back to Oregon…

Attempted to start building coaches again and built one last unit in 2016 but in the end got bought up by winnebago who did nothing with the brand and sold it off to Organ Motor Coach after destroying all the original molds and designs with the agreement never to restart the brand and only provide services.

You guys have short memories. The crash of the economy in 2008 took down Country Coach, Monaco (the original Monaco), Alpine, Travel Supreme, and almost took down other manufacturers as well. It was the economy. No one was buying coaches. I was selling new coaches reposed by the bank for 50 cents on the dollar but had to sell them for 40 cents on the dollar or no one would buy them.
