Come and inspect a hive with me. A general overview of what we look for this time of year. Summer solstice has passed so in theory the brood nest will start to contract however with the great weather I haven't seen this happen yet.
We have a check to make sure everything is ok with the Queen, looking for a good level of eggs and lavae.
Making sure there are no queen cells, this is where they look to replace the queen and reproduce by swarming, and we don't wanna lose our bees when the main summer honey flow is on!
Then to ensure they have enough space to store the surplus honey, of they run low they start filling the brood nest so the queen can't lay eggs (honeybound) and will look to swarm or the colony will just slowly wither away, which we do not want to happen!
