john j The tanks in this Collection where Deactivated long ago, their arms unable to function, normally by shoving a steel rod into the chamber and welding it in place, then by destroying the firing mechanics inside the gun, other then that these vehicles are 100 percent operational, but the only tank i know of that still has a working gun and in civilian hands is in America, a M18 Hellcat to be precise.

@@juliuscajilog9371 sorry for this late-ish responce, to answer your question, yes. it is forbidden to fire the gun sideway's for 105 and in some cases 90mm AMX versions, but not for the AMX-13-75. i've had a chat with one of the old guy's on base (was back in 2004, i'm an ex-tanker from the Dutch army). and a bit of a small history lesson of what the old guy told me. the 105 amx was basically a scam by the french, it was first sold to the belgians and then to the dutch. but the belgians and dutch found out real fast that they would flip over because of the caliber of the gun. 90mm was not that big of a problem, but it would still flip over if the terrain was not favourable. so we tried to get our money back from the french, which failed because they are a asshats sometimes. so we sold them off to somewhere else. but the Dutch army got rid of all the Centurions and AMX tanks as soon as the leopard 2 was taken into service. again. i know your comment is 9 month's old and nobody has given you a straight answer yet. so here you are. have a good one lol edit: grammar

You can still load the main gun manually without using the magazine. That is where the extra stowage ammo come into play, different types are loaded manually by the commander as needed, the magazines are generally loaded with HE if enemy armour is not expected.

With such little place how should the commander get extra rounds out of the hull an put them into the muzzle? Maybe with "smaller" (and the ammuntition of the original German 7,5-cm-KwK 42 L/70 had been rather large in fact: thepanzertrap.com/images/PANAMMO%20AP%20TYPE%201%20WOOD2.png ) 75 mm rounds it might have worked, but certainly not with the later 90 mm or 105 mm rounds . . .

When shooting the main gun with the AMX13-105, one should never traverse the gun outside the tracks or it would tip over from the recoil. We (the fortunate ones in the Centurions) called it the shooting rollerskate. The AMX13 was worn with army-issued suspenders and its tank commander had to bend or flex his whole body depending on whether the main gun (thus the turret) elevated or depressed. Reload was quick (think seconds) but it took a while before the whole verhicle calmed down and back into some semblance of battery after firing the main gun. Otherwise, a neat little package of vicious destruction to possible adversaries.

+French Bomber Sold for export, mainly to israel; I had the pleasure of working on different models of AMX-13 on gun 90mn, armed missile section of a cannon 75mn and 4 SS11 missiles to finish on 13 VBCIs Milan. I was hot inside but also very very cold because of engine placement in the front right causing an air suction from the turret well to the engine compartment. Its rate of fire is impressive with the system of "loader", a good crew could put 6 shells of the same trajectory in less than a minute, useful especially in artillery support, some tank commander engage themselves in the shell barrel by a good bed on the rear of the munition. This infantry tank was a wonder of design, are easy maintenance. His faults are air supply and the noise he made while driving by are ventillateur. if not that fun to drive. In addition it was equipped with a hydraulic troubleshooting starting system that has allowed the crew to start the gear in case of battery failure or breakage of starter .The following 8-cylinder flat was equipped with magneto we could cut independently of the other, the use of magnétot allowed to use the boot system Hydraulic ride on the back of moteur .The grip of the unsynchronized gearbox is tricky but once used is no longer made the difference with a sync box. Only the crew size is a handicap, + 1m75 sorry you will have to fight on foot .... LoL

One thing he doesn't mention is, that there is a gap between turret and hull where there is no armor at all (and can't be added), just a canvas. This exposed crew in the turret to fire even from small guns and shrapnels. That's one big point why this turret design isn't used often today.

+MrTorgue Is it? Or is it just that the overlapping armor let the rain (and blast) in.

+Adamast You're right. I thought there was no armor behind that canvas at all, but a little research enlighted me. Thanks. (But like you mentioned yourself, still a big big risk for crew because of blasts and other hazards)

The AMX-13 which now currently operating in Indonesia has been modified with 105mm gun, which now change the name be AMX 13 105. But I wonder how is combat with these tanks versus modern MBT such PT-91, Leopard 2 or M1 Abrams from its neighbor countries. Hmm...difficult to know.
