At the end of one line, the last beat, they always stopped showing her face/eyes. It was, as they destroyed an intimate moment every few seconds. And it was always on an important beat, so it was reinforced. It just left me with a feeling of frustration. And that wanted to hide her. And in this darkness, with dancers, pyros etc.

Firstly, I want to say if there is one thing I have learnt from your videos it is lighting supporting the beat🤣 I never knew this (why would I) but now even before you mention it in your master classes I am looking out for it!!! You’ve made me appreciate lighting designers so much, and I am definitely going to be looking out for it in future performances. About Italy’s performance- it was the most dissapointing for me out of all the favourites. I actually thought the staging was awful. Part of that is because I was transfixed by her San Remo performance and watched it sooo many times and what we got at ESC was so different and not for the better. The dancers and the choreography only took *away* from the performance. Angelina is a world class performer but this looked like it could’ve been done by anybody? If it was my choice, it would’ve been 70% close ups + steady cam🤣 What makes her different is her charisma and I feel like they did not showcase that here. When you have too many wide shots, or staging this distracting, you can’t grasp the story being told and in the San remo performance I felt she was talking to me personally and I felt compelled to listen. A lot of my casual Eurovision friends did not even remember Italy’s performance when I mentioned it to them after. Amazing artist and song but if Malta had delivered that it would not have made top 10 in my opinion.

As an Italian and a fan of the great talent that Angelina has, I can only agree with you. The choice of wanting to do a different and richer stage than usual that Italy offers has unfortunately penalized the song but especially Angelina. Patience, let's hope she is equally appreciated abroad for the talent she has and for her songs ❤️. Thanks anyway

agree on everything. I understand what they wanted to do with the choreography. it didn't work because they didn't give it focus and were always filming the background. should have done like in Beyonce "single ladies" music video, stage very clear and focusing on singer and dancers. and if they want have the roses slowly slowly creeping around filling the stage and, in the end, burn them but on screen not with pyro. I think the pyro effect hurt them. because it's such a grand over the top effect it emphasized how much the song doesn't have grand over the top moments. it's not a song for pyrotechnics.

Was that woven straw thing meant to be a chair, or a throne? It was difficult to see it between the swirling backdrop and the floor. It looked like something from an arts and crafts fair. At first, I thought why is she leaning against a basket?

Tbh this was by far the biggest heartbreak of the season for me, Angelina was my winner this year and La noia songwise is one of my all time ESC favourites, and I was so excited to see it slaying in ESC and to see Italy finally getting a very high result with a woman, but this performance was a huge disappointment and you explained perfectly why... I'm just heartbroken that such a perfect song and such a wonderful artist had to get Italys worst result since 2016 and even one month after it's still hard for me to cope with it... I still hope that La noia will manage to have a great success despite the performance and result somehow and as well that Angelina will have a great career, and maybe even one day we will see her back at ESC with another perfection getting the result that she should've gotten this year 🙏

On the other hand, top10 placing constanly is amazing result and even despite this staging its still a clearly a brilliant result. But yes, the staging could support her much much more and maybe it would change the odds.

@JanBors Yeah, on paper 7th place is indeed a great result but considering how good this song is and that Italy managed to get better results with worse songs in the past I can't deny that it makes me feel way more negative than positive about this result

@@RazHa985 I kinda think its a nieche song. So from my perspective the success is great. Other songs from Sanremo has bigger commercital succes than La Noia even outside Italy. So it depend on a perpective. I would not see it that badly

I have to think that people who voted for Angelina already knew the song and want to vote for her. This whole staging, everything single element of it, does not earn any new votes and is more likely to push votes away. It's a classic miss, lost all the magic from San Remo. Angelina needed a staging similar to St. Pedro's, even if that also wasn't perfect but it was much better than this. Disappointing as I had Angelina as my ESC app #1 before the contest, and it got overtaken by Bambie as soon as the first rehearsal happened.

I agree with most of your comments and also many from the people joining this discussion - so, I'm going to add something which seems it hasn't been covered yet (well, I haven't come across it yet) which is this: All this dark into dark silhouettes = no real contrast...seem to me like an effort to hide or camouflage something?! - dare to say some dancers with odd sizes were probably viewed as a problem by someone? I'm aware Angelina deliberately opted for using unusually sized dancers (let's say, not perfect) as a statement - and proudly so...but maybe someone else (maybe the choreographer) secretly objected this idea and managed to impose his own ways - and in doing so, suppressing Angelina's ideas?! (too many cooks spoiled the broth...). If a bold statement was to be made...it should have been enhanced not covered (my view)....in the end everything in this performance has been muffled and compromised - including Angelina's stage presence. It's not the first time....Italy has some serious work to do in order to improve it's staging - take example from Ukraine or Ireland...or, if unsure keep it simple (Sanremo's staging was perfect in my view).

actually if you dont mention the thing about dancers, I did not see it. They are wear black, so its all like stuff its happening but there is exaxtly zero point of interest on the stage. Not even in a wrong way.

Let's dilute this mess in the background" like he was ashamed for someone's else imperfections? Angelina in her past songs and life has made a statement of the fact she doesn't want perfection eg. in La Noia "Se rischio di inciampare almeno fermo la noia" = if I risk to stumble isn't a big deal and at least I stop this boredom..." or in "Ci Pensiamo Domani" she sings: "Come e' bello sbagliare.." = it's fun if it goes wrong..." this theme is repeated in other songs and I totally agree with her - perfectionism and professionalism aren't fun and it would be a better world if we were all a bit more "amatorial". Angelina is a risk taker and her wishes have been sabotaged but an egotistic and narrow minded choreographer... Have you watched her improvisation in the press room? It's a bit uncomfortable initially but if you manage to watch the whole performance till the end it should give you goosbumps - in fact no other performer or song in the whole ESC24 gave more emotions than Angelina's "Imagine" - the performance is far from perfect - it's raw and you can feel it but genuine...she's showing and giving everything...warts and all.

yes, but thats the trick, also this you nust do perfectly or it does not look good and I doubt that italian artist with a big team does in reality something that big randomly after investing lots of money... that simply did not happen. The art is to make it look like that. Which this morelikely looked as a misconcept.

What a dissapointment. She was my favorite up to the semi! Angelina is petite and she dissapeared in the wood. It almost feels they were trying to make her fit the staging' instead of fitting it to her

Per favore smettiamola di arrampicarci sugli specchi! La canzone era bellissima, Angelina era bravissima e lo staging era molto spettacolare. L'Eurovision quest'anno è stato scandalosamente politicizzato e questa è l'unica verità. Avrebbe potrebbe esserci qualunque staging oppure nessuno ma i risultati dovevano essere quelli che sono stati a prescindere. La Svizzera ha presentato una canzone interessante ma un plebiscito di 12 punti quasi tutti alla Svizzera e nessuno all'Italia vuol dire proprio che le giurie si erano accordate a tavolino. Comunque spero che l'Italia non partecipi piu all'E.S.C. perchè non credo che sia un contest pronto per la musica di qualità. Scusate ma è la mia opinione.

This video is a breakdown of the staging. No need to bring in other stuff around. If you ask me, the staging did not show Angelina as an amazing artist but just as another good Eurovision performance without the magic, she has. This is from me as now its irelevant how others voted.

The worst is the edition of all time, too many messes, unclear things and politics prevails over the embarrassing competition. Israel a shame that he participated and took all those points from the audience. Esc is losing credibility and I'm sorry for me but it's a circus

There's no contrast. Everything gets lost. The graphics are dark, they get all the attention and they are not very pretty either.

I think who decided the performance, I'm talking about RAI and Angelina's mqnagement, really sabotaged her with their choices. Before the event I was sure she was top 3 material (just because it was really hard imo to beat Nemo and Baby Lasagna), La noia is not the kind of songs I usually listen to however at Sanremo Angelina, which I didn't know before, won me over with her attitude her positive energy and stage presence you really wished to join her and dance off all the bad dark moments of your life just like she was singing she would do, I'm sorry to say none of these things were replicatex on Esc stage. The staging although beautiful required long camera angles ( I hope it's clear what I mean because I don't know technical terms) and rarely focused on her frame favouring the choreo, nothing was enhancing Angelina or ths song meaning which even if supported by a fun danceable rythm has a philisophic and introspective topic and should suggest an intimate moment of acceptance of ones troubles rejoycing about life no matter what. Instead the chosen representation looked more like a party song and was flattening Angelina's personality, and while she was engaging in the choreo she even had few singing uncertainties (which are so unusual for her). We Italians are often criticized for not been able to do good stagings (at Eurovision) and my opinion is that this year Rai wanted to show off a bit and Angelina's management were obsessed in filling up the bigger stage, these two factors "distracted" them from what was imho Angelina's uniqueness, her personality and energy on stage, something distinctive, not a choreo or a staging everyone else can do and something imho the should have focused on.

​@@JanBors​ yeah, I'm sure she loved the idea but she doesn't have the experience to judge it all that would have worked out well, the blame is on all the professionals in her entourage and above all Rai, who should have known better... I'm a nobody who doesn't work in tv and know nothing of filming or tv profuction.etc. and even to me it was obvious this set up although elegant was not working well... I wonder how many people watching tv understood that the concept was "life should be dancing with a crown of thorns" because to me was not evident at all ev2n 5he beautiful throne they brought from Italy was barely visible.. also something I don't understand that maybe you, being a pro can clarify: they were really obsessed about "filling the stage" because Eurovision stage is much bigger than Sanremo and so on, it was reiterated in so many interviews but is that really such a cruvial factor?.I mean it's a tv show can't you use a thousand tricks to show in tv only what you need (ie conceal an empty stage)? In my brief approach to creative writing I remember our teacher always repeating to avoid the need to fill in pages because we should write only what is functional to the story which I think is a good suggestion for every situation... in the end a 7th place is a good result yet I don't feel happy about it because never like this year we had a strong act yet we didn"t do a good job imho. (Then of course there more important things in life than Eurovision 😊 )

@@Barbara_M. this is one of the general issues that countries who do not do shows like Sweden or smaller like Estonia, dont have experiences or just go with - we must put all and use everything. But thats not the way if the song rly not demands it somehow. Imo here also the colour palet usage was not good as artists were literally lost in dominant graphics.

It Is not stage the Song Is the best or in the top nobody gave 12 points and we must investigate why? Not cause of the stage It gas bene One of the best. Let's cit It out and do not tease us. Italy has bene robbed once again or Euro Is not suitable for our not superficial songs 😮

well, this counts with the audiovisual performance, it was distractive, still received lots points. If you look how the song perform commercially, its also not a wonderful success. Its good but thats it. And than this video is about a staging breakdown, where you can feel what went wrong. Senses must be fed, this is a principle. And they werent fed properly with this approach pitifully.
