Inside the Secret World of Sufism in Pakistan

Sufism is often described as a branch of Islam and not an actual part of the religion. Few months ago I visited Lahore Pakistan and got access into a Sufi shrine where local Sufis gather every Thursday to practice Islam performing unique dance rituals. My goal was simple: to find out if that original statement was true or not.

Muslim here. This is not a representation of Islam, or even mainstream Sufism for that matter, whatsoever. This is extreme (Bid'ah) Sufism, and is not permitted at all. There is permitted Sufism, according to the bounds of Islam, and there are those that are outside it, such as in this video.

@@mysterywho_ I doubt that, usually normal ones are the most insane. One hadith says "do dhikr so much, until people say you are crazy!". So... You know, relax, free yourself, love a little. Don't hate, hate will kill you.

@@SDRsUnited I just searched it up and apparently that hadith is classified weak or very weak. Even if it's true, it probably means people say you're insane due to the amount of dhikr you do, not because of mixing crazy stuff actions like weird dancing and dhikr together. Allah knows best

@@mysterywho_ Weird dancing was called rakha, and dhikr together is sunnah. If you are from Pakistan or India, Shaykh ul Islam Tahir il Qadri talks about it, and gives hadithes and explanations. So, if you want a realk knowledge, and not a wahabie hogwash, learn from him.

7:34 and this revivalist thought is the only way to stop the growing numbers of ex muslims and atheism in the muslim world. Sufis are such beautiful people, their beliefs are at par with western philosophers such as Schopenhauer and East Asian philosophers such as Buddha.

This is a philosophy that a human can become one with God ( Allah being the word for God in arabic and not his name) or are a part of God. Their views are not in keeping with Islam that God is the highest and has no partners (strict monotheism).

I'm not debating with the people who practices Sufism but there are some points where things are off . Dhikr is not a body movement or dancing its actually the recitation of reminding oneself and that Allah is our creator, he is the all mighty and be glory to him and as about Islam being said for women and slavery then its not right as Islam which is oppressing it has great moral values for women and for men as well, its not oppressive as the culture has made and represented it in front of the world. As Sufis beliefs the values of peace and love and respect to all, its the same which Islam teaches us, it is what our Holy Quran tells us only difference is that the Sufis follow the value in their own understanding way of comfort and we follow as Islam as what there's written in Quran e Pak . That's the reason people say Sufism is not a part of Islam.

@NoCivilWar.. This is advice as same as I would say, nuclear physics? Just read the books about it. This is very wrong advice. Ordinary muslims have no right to read and explain hadith or Quran by themselves. There are Tafseer, there are those who went to study all their life. They can say what is what. Not you wth Quran and three hadith.

Sufi dance was a means of entertainment for Muslims in the past, when there were no disc jockeys in the world. and it is still considered good because they are reciting God's words in their mouths and hearts. maybe this is like gospel music in a Christian church.
