I love this track to death. There's nothing like it. The exhilarating speed, the g force, the powertrain noise screaming in your control of the throttle, the sliding you experience when your tires starting to wear, the first experience of under /over steering, and the long stretch once you made it through all the turns. It's....... It's really a beautiful experience.

I'm living near to the Nurburgring. It's not only the weather itself - it is that you have very different weather conditions in *one* lap. There are many days when you have ice and snow in the first part, then a wet area where it's raining and a sunny dry one. Also the weather changes very fast due to the exponed location. Another difficulty is that you have different surfaces all the time. The Nurburgring is a real challenge for cars

@123jogger123 - I was there on opening week of Touristenfahrten back in March 13 of 2006. On my 1st lap coming out of the gate from under the bridge through Tiergarten all the way toward Aremberg, the weather, while track itself was a bit damp from melting ice, was nice and sunny. By the time I'm approaching Fuchsröhre the sky dimmed and it started to drizzle a bit. Then before Kesselchen I see flurries of snow. As I made my way down Hohe Acht and through the downhill squiggly turns the sun was out again and the blinding reflection from the melting snow on the side of the road was in my face and I had to slow down for the icy runoff as the back of my FF Gulf TDI rental car was stepping out LOL. Only in Nordschleife where a plowing front wheel drive front engine car could actually inadvertently have its back end break loose! Lap 2, the weather condition reversed; Lap 1 conditions no longer applied... LOL! One got to actually be there to know what I mean ROFL!

what I learned about Nürburgring Nordschleife: > Hyundai did not build the Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai tests their family cars at Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai buys expensive inspection equipment, to use in marketing videos > Hyundai has set no records at Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai has not demonstrated any significant innovations at Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai must have slipped the video producer some money Seriously, there is some very good history about the Nürburgring Nordschleife in this video, and Hyundai has been an amazingly successful startup .... but the Hyundai segments are crudely interjected into this video production in a way that makes the viewer angry at Hyundai for duping them into watching a commercial. Maybe only a couple Hyundai snippets, and a sponsored by Hyundai text in the credits .. would have been much more effective at selling their brand.

I have loved driving go carts to race cares all my life. I’m 67 years and would wish I could take one lap on this track. I don’t think you have lived until you drove this track but sadly it won’t happen for me. Love watching the young to the old drive it. I’m so jealous of the ones who get to drive. If I lived there I would drive it all the time.

That paint stripping story at 13:36 is a notorious myth. It has been thoroughly debunked in recent years. The story was invented by Alfred Neubauer in his autobiography in 1957. Also, Mercedes racing cars only became known as silver arrows in the 1950's. The phrase was not used in the 1930's.

I think it's an Asian thing, Sony execs will talk Japanese when addressing a crowd, and have a junior employee translate to English. I think it has to do with them not wanting to butcher a language they don't speak fluently, so they have someone else do it.

  • @Thorinbur

It is perfectly fine to translate and not to ask a person that doesn't speak a language to try and use it. But if you are going to dub someone, why the fuck would you than ask a voice actor to put fake accent. It is stupid and wrong on so many levels....

If you knew where the term "Made in Germany" came from, you would be surprised about your comment. In the early days, the British produced the best quality of products. The Germans (most notably the now well known Krupp group) went to England to do industrial espionage. The British then coined the term "Made in Germany" to mark inferior copies of British designs. Up until the Germans became better and the terms meaning did a 180 degrees turn, and stood for quality. Inspiration is a process of copying.

While this is in parts an ad for Hyundai, I feel the real world example is a great way to showcase NB outside of pure racing. Adds more to the story.

N Performance Division. Haha. I know Hyundai has paid top dollar for Peter and his European buddies from Audi and ///Motorsport. But N Performance Division? I'd think they can come up with a better name. Assuming the car under development is the Hyundai Elantra GT N. GTI and Type R fighter. Great doc Auto Addict guys. Fan of the channel.

IOM TT circuit is longer at nearly 40 miles a lap, although they are closed off public roads, it's still nearly twice as long per lap thou. I have been round both circuits with my old man driving me when I was about 10-11, in a car at the Nürburgring and on a bike on the TT circuit.

The wording they choose in the video is the longest lap, they say it a couple of times, despite the TT course only being part time it is a longer lap. The roads that go to make up the TT course are maintained to race track standards despite being used very little outside of the actual race, the other thing is that the IOM doesn't have a speed limit on most of the roads that go to make up the course so you can use them full speed for free.

IOM isn't an FIA approved track because the FIA doesn't oversee motorcycle racing. Strictly speaking, the Nurburgring is a one way toll road and is policed as such when the public drives on it. It's the longest circuit still used for car racing, though.

I did enjoy the early BMW M3 footage in the nurburgring. I got to drive one of those in 89' and it handles and brakes very well. I also drove a Porsche 930 turbo of about the same era. The Porsche was faster but I think the BMW had better handling and definitely braking.

Great video, even with the Hyundai elements... odd that they did not post a lap time for all of the effort and expense this venture must have incurred. Have logged hundreds of laps of the ring on GranTurismo... definitely top of the "bucket list" to get there in person. Thank you for posting this !

Hyundai only has a recent and peripheral relationship with the Nurburgring, so it totally makes sense to dedicate half of the documentary about the Nurburgring to this company. It feels so much like clickbait. Give us something we want to see, but splice in an informercial we have to either grimace through or skip MULTIPLE times. If it was a company that was there from the beginning, OR multiple companies were interviewed from long time users to newcomers, that would make sense.

I still find it funny that Porsche built a car that cost almost a million dollars to go 3 sec. faster than a Dodge that costs a bit over 100,000

$200 000 per second faster isn't worth it. A supercharger or built motor and better tires for an ACR makes more cents to me.
