It has only been out for a day.

For some nations it was literally illegal and believe it or not it was Obama who removed that law. Up until the 70's they were still reinforced. My mother and her sisters and brother all had to go to catholic boarding school because it was illegal for them to be taught our culture. (I'm in my 30's, so please consider the fact it was THAT recent and not some far off history) My grandmother had to go to one of those "schools" to become "civilized". Yes, here in the united states we had those schools too. Until 1968 we didn't even have some basic rights. Thank you for this! For a time the Nation seemed to remember we existed but For the last 20 years or so we've been forgotten again. We need more balance in how our culture is presented. For those who want to learn more, 500 Nations is a beautiful introduction by an actor that has steadfastly supported us throughout his career. It's hard to FIND but if you get an opportunity WATCH IT! It's not just about our suffering but also a celebration of our many nations and their survival.

The host makes great connections. She relates the information in a way that I can carry with me through my day and share with others.

This world could use more of the green corn that are know any. It would be like the movie purge, but in the opposite way, where we all focus on letting go of our rage

I'm not surprised I've never heard of this ceremony, though it does make me sad to understand that even now these rich traditions are being suppressed and the people are still being mistreated. Recently been trying to learn more about pre-European Mississippi and this is just wonderful! Thank you for bringing these voices forward and letting them speak to more of us

Great reporting Tank, wonderful to learn about Green Corn Ceremony and these great Mvskoke and other tribal rituals of the true people of the land. It's the same for us Maori, nothing happens without womens mana. Green Corn Ceremony or something acceptable between tribes ought to replace Thanksgiving.

I love Ritual so much

This series lifts my spirit. I really want the producers of the segments to push to have clips pf the program put on tiktok to reach a wider audience. I really dont want this series to end. We are losing unique American cultures. many of us have been told for years that rituals and practices were sinful or backwards so these things were not passed down. This will wake some of us up.

It’s hard not mentioning, because it is so overtly obvious, the vast disparity in comments on this particular episode in comparison to another episode with the Native Black American Mardi Gras Indians. No disparaging comments questioning the validity of lineage whatsoever of the guests. Very interesting…

Some ppl r so obsessed with skin color and race, they don't have the mental capacity anymore to grasp the concept and science of skin color and race. Not even the Aboriginals of Australia r from Africa. The ancient DNA studies have been done and verified, they are from ASIA, Eurasia to be exact. The Negritos from the Philippines and the Natives of Papua New Guinea, and others, are from ASIA, Eurasia, with ASIAN DNA, not African! It's been known for a long time that diet and environment can dictate ur physical appearance, including hair texture and skin color. Spin it all u want, spin it all day long, spin it till ur dizzy, spin it till doomsday, no amount of culture vultures BS, is gonna change anyone's genetics!

This is also apart of “black culture”..

I too am quite interested in ancient practices and traditions. But to state that the indigenous people were innocent and peaceful would be a gross falsehood. The native peoples attacked and enslaved each other on a level greater than anyone wants to admit. Thier stewardship of the land was in harmony with nature and near perfection. Their treatment ofothers was quite savage and often resulted in genocide.

Exactly! They are not truly indigenous and its obvious. Webb in the way they speak about tradition. They speak as if it’s removed from them or a thing of the past and not apart of them. This episode was cringy to me. There was a few things I noticed though: the first picture is what my great great grandmother and her siblings look like, a huge part of the Indian removal act was to persuade native peoples to disassociate with any people deemed as “black”. It’s staged like it was to remove Indians from lands but really it’s to removed their identity and replace it with these people in this video.

I honestly feel she knows what’s up. The video she did in New Orleans shed light on why their practice is so sacred. They could not wear indigenous wear or proclaim to be or they would be killed or jailed. So this video comes around full circle. The skin color is an obvious giveaway but Ain’t no way they’re in the deep sound and don’t even have the slightest accent

There are a lot of people from the Black community who r embarrassed by this BS. These are good proud Black ppl, confident and proud of who they are and their true story of being brought here and facing barriers and knocking those barriers down! Thank you for this video and it's very much more meaningful bc of the undercurrents in the Native community, at this time. Thank you to the folks from ur community who support your video. So very sophisticated on your part to just talk about another community and their traditions. I would like to know more about ur traditions. I've seen the jumping of the broom at weddings from ur community. I've seen how beautiful and lovingly they decorate the broom. What does it signify? It looks really sweet!
