Are these officially scored as HR? The iffy throws maybe should be triple, plus single base error. How far can scorers go,in saying "well,he probably would have made it"?

  • @mattosika

@@thomassullins8690 None of them are errors. At all. Mistakes yes, but the fact is almost all ITP home runs are made on mistakes. That's been true since the deadball era when a lot of parks had deep outfields if they had walls at all. The only way any of them become errors is if the fielder misses a catch on a dive any average fielder would be expected to make a catch on. Most of those are stupid dives no one would really logically be able to make. Thus mistake and not error.

@@mattosika mistakes, not errors is a good term. Reminds me of the somewhat subtle wording used by thae late Skip Carey at the ending of a four out inning, "no runs,no hits and no errors. . . were scored".

trooper1293 Good observation. At 1:22-27 there's no sight of the right fielder. If he had been backing the play, the hit would have resulted in either a stand-up double or the runner thrown out trying to reach third base.

July 20, 1965 pitcher Mel Stottlemyre hit an inside-the-park grand slam against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. Only one other pitcher ever did that, Deacon Phillippe for the Pirates back in 1910. Parks have been getting smaller each decade since the 1940s, and batters built up by steroids, so we won't see many more inside the park grand slams.

Didn't watch whole video but saw one few days ago where outfielder was so pissed because didn't make an off the wall difficult catch it, so he throws his hat down and ignores the ball completely, and another outfielder had to run over and get the ball and throw it but batter got an IPHR, was so disgusting how he threw a tantrum like a 4 yo and costing team a run

Forgot about Pokey Reese from the 2004 Red Sox. I forget the exact date, but he had two homers in that particular game; the first was inside the park, the second was a traditional one. When he came to the plate for the third time that game, the crowd at Fenway was rocking.

@ 1:38 Rofl Don Kelly, aka DKB (Don Kelly Baby). He was a great utility player when he played for the Tigers during there successful playoff run. Winning 4 straight division titles 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and an A.L Pennant in 2012, but lost in the World Series. The Tigers radio announcers Dan Dickerson (play-by-play) and former Tiger catcher Jim Price (analyst) gave him the name.

Why do so many of these outfielders not even try to throw the ball in after they miss it? After they miss they act like little pussies and just stand around while one of their team mates have to come running from half the field away to grab it, and then the cut off man didn't attempt to throw it in half the time either.

Best ISTPHR is in a game against bitter rivsl Dodgers vs Giants on August 3rd, 1978. Lee Lacy hits a fly ball into right center field. It was Jack Clark's ball but Herndon plowed into him leaving both unable to get up. Lacy was fast and made quick work of the bases. This was at Candlestick Park and Giants fans got very angry. It was a nationally televised game and the classless Giants fans were on their feet yelling "Bull$#!+, bull$#!+". I was 10 and bro was 15. Our parents got us out of there in no time. Of course we were decked out in full Dodger gear. Ahh, good times.
