It can't be ok that you need phone to get into the store. There is loads of phones, which can't even download the app, and no, I'm not taking about old school ones, but maybe older or cheaper phones. I bought my phone last year and I can't download several app just because it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Great way to make more profit, reduce service, and avoid employing people. Never will go in such a place.

Totalitarian control inbound. Cash is king, this is simply ushering in more control, tracking and job losses. Rather than blindly running around scanning QR codes and doing everything via our phones, people need to give things some deeper thought and weigh up the long term consequences and not just be driven by convenience.

It will be a means to make you obedient and to catch/control you. This is just one store, but if you support this then all will be like this, gas stations, etc. And this will be used by authorities.

How about kids? If I send my 7 year old for a milk and bread, how is she going to shop there? Is this aimed at young adults or something? Are they showing us who do they want in their store? Here in Ireland Aldi launched click and collect and it was dreadful. I tried it a few times and every single time I was waiting for forever and what I ordered and what I got never matched, eventually they stopped doing it (I wonder why 😅).

There was a time I wanted to download the Lidl app, but I couldn't. Simply because I live in a different country then what my email is registered to, or some other nonsense and the app isn't supported there. Now I'm so glad I couldn't download it.

How disturbing to see someone not even question that you are barred from food without digital id, a social id. Why add more barriers? (To control you subtly and steer you into normallising low key tyranny) Is it necessary? (Absolutely not) What's next? (Social credit score, not high enough score? No food for you) This is so fucked up that you have people using this store.

But what if your card gets declined? And also I'm taking it they don't accept cash either?

It wouldn't be sorted. Aldi will claim it will but from what I've read, people have had trouble even getting refunds for faulty things Aldi has sold when it's not been Aldi brand (despite your unwritten contract being with the place that sells the item, not the manufacturer) and getting refunds for delivery and shopping costs when nothing has been delivered (because Aldi outsources its delivery and both companies play a game of pass the buck when people have tried to get their money back). It's all over TripAdvisor

On the lowest level this is discrimination because I can't afford a smart phone even if I wanted one, so I couldn't shop there. But the biggest implication is what this means to ALL of us, for our privacy, our autonomy, and our freedom of choice. I have no issue with people using tech to shop but it should NOT be to the exclusion of all else, which it will rapidly be if people continue to blithely accept this! Good to see so many awake.

I'm a regular at Aldi shop and go I'm a vegan so they don't sell vegan ham like the bigger stores but I love there fruit and salad and veg and all cleaning products I save a fortune very strange at first but the friendly staff helped me down load the app and it's easy now happy shopping everyone 🎉
