Inside the Meltdown of the 2008 Housing Market Crash

Ойын-сауық

MELTDOWN - The Men Who Crashed The World
Housing Market Crash of 2008 - Global Financial Crises Documentary - Behind the Big Short
A look in to the housing market crash. behind the big short.
The first of a four-part investigation into a world of greed and recklessness that led to financial collapse.
In the first episode of Meltdown, we hear about four men who brought down the global economy: a billionaire mortgage-seller who fooled millions; a high-rolling banker with a weakness; a ferocious Wall Street predator; and the power behind the throne.
The crash of September 2008 brought the largest bankruptcies in world history, pushing more than 30 million people into unemployment and bringing many countries to the edge of insolvency. Wall Street turned back the clock to 1929.
But how did it all go so wrong?
Lack of government regulation; easy lending in the US housing market meant anyone could qualify for a home loan with no government regulations in place.
Also, London was competing with New York as the banking capital of the world. Gordon Brown, the British finance minister at the time, introduced 'light touch regulation' - giving bankers a free hand in the marketplace.
All this, and with key players making the wrong financial decisions, saw the world's biggest financial collapse.

I predict a housing crash due to people buying homes over asking price, lacking equity if prices decline further. Foreclosure becomes likely if they can't afford the house, and selling won't yield profits. With anticipated layoffs and rising living costs, many individuals may face this situation.

Another reason it's less likely to happen that way is that there is already too much demand waiting to absorb that regardless of how everyone is panicking and calling the crash. Nobody was making this prediction in 2008, at least not the general public, as I indicated below. In the other comment, it was mentioned that the ownership rate peaked in 2004. As of today, we are at the median level, having previously peaked in the second quarter of 2020. It decreased by 3% over 4 years, from 2008 to 2012, going from 68 to 65 in the second quarter of 2020.

Given that we are not used to such volatile markets, the fact that the US stock market has been on its longest bull run in history helps to explain the widespread fear and enthusiasm. I think a housing crash will happen because all those people who bought homes over asking price, although it was at a low interest rate, they are over their heads. They have no equity if the housing prices continue to go down, and if for whatever reason they cannot afford the house anymore and it goes into foreclosure because even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I think this will happen to a lot of people especially with the massive layoff predicted for the future and the cost of living rising at a high speed.

Until there's a considerable rise in housing supply, it's improbable that housing prices will notably drop. In the USA, there's a shortage of millions of housing units, and construction isn't matching this deficit. The consistent demand for housing, combined with population growth, results in even a slight price decrease attracting many buyers who swiftly acquire the available supply. I'm contemplating buying budget-friendly houses in 2024 and potentially exploring stock investments. As for the best time to enter the stock market, opinions vary: some find it profitable while others consider it risky. Any guidance on this matter?

Consider investing in stocks especially during a recession. While recessions can be tough, they can also offer good chances to buy low and sell high in the markets if you're cautious. Just remember, this is not financial advice, but it's a good time to think about buying stocks since having cash on hand isn't always the best option.

I’m 31 and I’ll be retired by 40 with stocks that pay dividends. You can’t ever win if you’re in debt. Not all but most people you see driving bmw and Mercedes with half million dollar homes will be in debt for their entire lives with no true financial freedom. Listen to the Dave Ramsey show. I was doing everything he said before I found out about his show. I don’t agree with him on credit cards though. He says don’t have them but the cash back from my business alone goes straight into Roth IRA for retirement and I’m responsible with them. He says don’t have them because most people aren’t. You are doing the right thing and you’ll have a great future with a level head on your shoulders.

I worked for Countrywide in the sub-prime division and eventually have worked for Bank of America for a total of 16 years. I remember when I actually saw the 2/28 notes that I was selling and it made me sick what I was selling. When I refused to sell a fixed income person a note that would have bankrupt her, it was just given to someone else. I felt sick for the company I was working for. When B of A bought out Countrywide things did change, but I remember those days and was just out of college and will never do that again!

62 million US mortgages are fraud - Packaged into securities, and resold several times on the Stock Market (aka derivatives) TAX FREE. Since the payout to the banks was immediate - and tax free - they started writing Notes/Mortgages with people who had no means of reliable support. The next thing they did was to sell these bundled mortgages to large pension holders, (Fire Fighters, Teachers, Governments, Insurance Companies). In the process, pensions and retirement cashes were plundered! Many don’t realize today how pensions are empty due to this fraud. Governments will now have to cut back on services in order to continue paying their retirees. How did they fall for it? Because the rating agencies (Moody’s etc.) were bribed to report the securities were as “safe as gold”. And Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac administrators were bribed to go along with the process. When it was uncovered in 2007/2008, 49 Attorney Generals took up arms - since among other things no tax was paid on the transfer of real estate property ownership. Unfortunately, the Attorney Generals were all told to “Stand Down”- There would be no prosecutions: Only the turning over of 100s of small banks to the large Wall Street Banking Terrorist who created the scam. So who runs the USA? The West? It’s not government: It’s Central Banks DON'T BLAME COUNTRYWIDE: the trading gimmick was created by Wall Street Banking terrorist in 1985. I have the memo by the Clearly Law firm of NY who wrote the SEC on behalf of Lehman Brothers to approve the gimmick. The next 10 years were spent bribing the principles (rating agencies, Freddie Man, Fannie, Clinton Administration) on behalf of Goldman Sach's who would act as the Trustee in the process. Countrywide was what the Russians would call "a usable idiot"! Anyone can write me for copy of the memo which was integral to starting it all on behalf of Goldman Sach's and other Wall Street Banking Terrorist! And now, having already sold the Note/Deed as stocks on the stock market (and having paid Zero tax under NY Trust law and IRS Code 860), the banks are illegally foreclosing! When the Federal judge stops them, they simply form a shell company and continue! Bank of America, for example, has been banned from the practice (Google: the blitz), so they just form 100’s of shell companies and continue the illegal practice! At the same time, Goldman Sach’s was paid commission on each fraudulent derivative as they acted as the Trustee - And they continue to do so, over and over again today! On top of it all, they got a 29 trillion dollar bailout. For what?! They already got paid! On top of it all, they got a 29 trillion dollar bailout. For what?! They already got paid! Meanwhile, Iceland, Scandinavia, South Korea and New Zealand (and Iran) prosecuted these banking terrorist whilst the USA rewarded them beyond the dreams of avarice. The banks that profit from war, such as the privately held Federal Reserve Bank, own us! We work for them. They are not backed by gold - But rather the USA army. Since the first Iraq war over 200,000 Veterans have committed suicide whilst a draft dodger sits in the White House. www.yesmagazine.org/new-economy/homeowners-rebellion-could-62-million-homes-be-foreclosure-proof

restfulsole7 System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities..... 1, Show all living creatures; all the love and kindness as much as you can. 2, Only try to be honest with yourself. If you try to be honest with others, you will get into big trouble soon or later. 3, Aim only one target at a time; otherwise you are chasing two rabbits and you will miss both. So, the reason behind it. Have one powerful reason and never ever give up the one you want the most. 4, Don't try to be good person only but be the powerful person. We will grow to be the one or we will die. There is no other choice. 5, Always learn and look for to improve something your life. 6, You are not alone. Love and faith the high power reduces unnecessary stress in life. But never completely rely on it. 7, Success and happiness are the byproducts of our usefulness. So, always increase the possibility of success. 8, Life is not going to be easy. Because of our unnecessary things. Eliminate all the unnecessary things as much as you can by organising yourself well with the environments. 9, Never believe anything without the proper evidences. 10, Always try to give more than you take. Because it is dignity/ character of the divinity within you. 🌎 As long as people continue to see themselves as separate from everything else, they lend themselves to being completely enslaved. Success depends on how well we relate to everything around us. Joy comes from that bliss of connectedness. I believe that unarmed truth and love will have the final word in reality. To love; you should have good heart. I am a good person until I see a person better than my standard of goodness. Being good is the progress towards a worthy cause. Love is God. Whoever lives in love, lives forever. How selfish it is to try to keep something forever? Love is all about nourishing, nurturing, sharing and expanding the love within you for all. The principle to which we adhere to is that we have kindness of love at heart for the whole of mankind. As long as there is the unnecessary differences within us; we can not live peacefully so we have to eliminate all the unnecessary differences among us so we can love all. People abilities may vary but not there true love. If we love a person/ God for a reason then we love the reason but not the person. No reason is the reason to love the person because true love never fails. So do not compare or measure the true love as first or the last but love all truly. If you love people truly then you can understand people. If you don't love then you don't understand people at all. People are controlled by system why? The Cyclical Consumption is the current economy all over the World. It is making the scarcity problems of the earth finite resources to deteriorate day by day. Current Monetary System is legalised theft. Real money is Gold and Silver. Scarcity gives the money more value. Real money won't lose it's value. When Governments stay away from Gold & Silver then very easy to transfer the wealth / resources to upper class the Rich (Corporatocracy) Elite. When the Governments are printing out more new fiat currency with reserve banks, our old currency is losing its purchasing power everyday. They are printing millions of currency everyday. All governments and laws are existing right now to transfer wealth to upper class the rich elite. The USA Government & other Governments are in many countries, bailed the investment banks & financial institutions in 2008 against the majority of the people. There is no democracy in any countries. Because of the Money System based on profits motive only above all else even humans lives and well-being. So, we do not have freedom to protect our values with the money so on. The violence, bankruptcy & all the negativities are build into the Monetary System of our society. All are owned (including ourselves) by Reserve Bank. Which is private cartel the corporation. So, in legal system, we are legally considered as chattel the properties. They make money in the capital markets with our birth certificates. They do not consider us as Humans. That's the truth. We are at the invisible war with the Elites (Corporatocracies). We have to fight for our Freedom. Resource Based Economy is the Solution. We have to declare the earth resources as the heritage of all the people of this world. So everyone has access to it. Please have your research about zeitgeist movement then you know the truth more. Truth About Health/Drugs Industry Because Of It Your Life At High Risk The drug industry is a 1/2 trillion dollars a year worldwide conglomerate. Almost 300 billions dollars just in North America. That is really big business. What would happen if everyone were well? There is no money in health. You see, good health makes a lot of sense but it doesn't make a lot of dollars. Because everything they do is toxic. Every drug they use, prescription drugs, all drugs are liver toxic, bar none. If you've had amalgam fillings put in your mouth by dentists. It is highly toxic. There's cancer because most of the chemos are themselves carcinogens. To view the tumor as the cancer and we know the tumor is not the cancer. The cancer industry is 200 billions dollars a year. The more work they get, the more profit there is. You have to dismantle; If the truth ever came out about what we would need to do. 30% of people of females in America are at risk of getting, will get cancer of the breast. The ones that are already dead have been grossly mistreated by the medical profession and by the government that supposedly is supposed to encourage free research and development of all possibilities. Why would medical doctors who studied medicine and practice medicine and are heavily funded by pharmaceutical companies why would they go and look into vitamins? That they never had the answer orthomolecular. And as more and more of our population start taking their health into their own hands, there's going to be even more and more of changes. It can't go on the way it is. The system is failing apart. We must make nutrition the primary prevention strategy for the population. You are what you eat. You are everything that you have ever done to yourself. The choices you make directly affect the outcome of your life. - (Food Matters Documentary in Netflix) 😊 Well, I truly love God. I am not religious but very spiritual person. So, I believe 1) Religion is the beliefs in someone experiences But spirituality is having my own experiences. The mainstream religions people promote religious ideology by giving guidelines and guide but In my spiritual life; I do not want anyone or anything between God and me to restrict my freedom to worship God. 2) We do not need any authorities to do good work. The god work is the good work always. In contrast; organised mainstream religions are claiming that they have the authorities to do God works as leaders so on. 3) God is not capable of doing wrong thing, change the past for us and create anything out of nothing for us. Nothing means not anything. So, even God is limited. The mainstream religious people believe that God is unlimited. 4) God wants us to take responsibilities for our righteousness life but not for all the consequences of our actions because they are continued to exist among us. So, How can god punish us for all our consequences? The mainstream religious people believe we are full of sins because of all our actions. 5) Freewill is an illusion. People always choose the perceived path of greatest pleasure. So, we do not have choices all the time. In contrast teachings of the mainstream religions are promoting people to do god's will always because we all have choices of freewill always. 6) We can not separate everything into groups. So, everything for good and evil and there's no success and failure for everything. If everything is real then real things can not be threatened. Once you come to understand that God/The Holy Spirit is in each of us, You will no longer need a Book to tell you how to live. Then why we need religious scriptures? The Virtue is the expression of the basic goodness in our actions. The Basic goodness is the fundamental worthiness of every individuals. We are worthy to God always in everything. 7) Beliefs in a cruel God makes a cruel man. No matter what; every living creatures has the right to live and What makes their life cheap? Everything depends on everything. Nothing too big or too small in value. We can not love and hate at the same time; Being a vegetarian means love without cruelty happily. The mainstream religious people are killing people and sacrificing animals in the name of God. They promote God's cruel punishments. The Punishment is endless for Sinners/Devil according to religious scriptures. But God is love always. Overcome hate with love. If all religions for peace, unity? No way. Because they are not for peace. 8) Well, The God gave us everything to go from moment to moment in our lives as we do our part and pray only to thank god then the Love is in progress. The Love is always for everyone. We are always worthy of the God's love. Our greatest fear is; not to be loved by anyone but we are all loved by someone. When we eliminate all our unnecessary differences among us then true peaceful life is possible with the true love. If we can't find the peace within ourselves then we will never find it anywhere else. 9) This is the Fight for independence and freedom of humanity to worship God freely without religious guide and guidelines to restrict us. Unnecessarily, We do not want third party controls over us in anything ; especially in spirituality. 10) Revive Survive Thrive. Sincerely, The Real Peacemaker against religious oppression. kzread.info/dash/bejne/epaqpdqGlsaxppc.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/jJOB2sydosedg9o.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/qYCux8Oke6aclqg.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/gmyqqsNxqqedmrw.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/on1-qqyzdLTJgrA.html

With $80K down payment, my parents should have had everything paid in full by 2001. When my mom called and asked for the information on the house in 2005, the man on the other line told her "it's a scam there's nothing on file for you, we're going to go under in the next couple of years...I'm leaving this company this month and I'm going to do you a favor and shred your paperwork... and after that don't say a word to anyone..."...a few years later this happened.

Investing TV you are totally right in your comment, a few years ago, a family member was given a loan for a house with $500,000, nothing down, zero for five years, like most people are getting, I advise them not to do it, because when we ask the realtor that we want it a 30 year, since the bank already approved it, that instead of having a fabulous zero after that video, we wanted to 30 year loan, the realtor said no the bank is not going to go for that. That’s when we pick up all the paperwork, and we just walked out. Because that was a sham, that the banks were doing. The banks were willing to give you a $500,000 loan, zero interest rate for five years, after that a video, but they were not willing to give you a 30 year loan, with points. I figure it’s a sham

This story tells only part of the truth. Yes, major banks and mortgage bankers made loans that to people who would have not qualified for a loan under normal circumstances. But the dynamics of this is much more complex than that. The federal government, under equal housing opportunity laws, forced banks to drop their qualification requirements and guaranteed most of those loans, and allow banks to bundle loans into mortgage-backed trading instruments that were, at one point, pushed as the safest investment around because it was backed by the government, and by the false belief that real estate prices will go up forever. Another thing what was allowed was the ARMs (Adjustable Rate Mortgages). The interest rate on these loans would go up every year until it reached a point even those who could initially afford to service the mortgage were no longer able to do so. All the way to the late 1980s people had to put down a sizable down payment (usually no less than 5% of the contract price), and show a couple of IRS returns to confirm they have had a steady income for at least a couple of years. There was also a rate applied (38% comes to mind) that set the limit to how much a household could afford in mortgage payments and still keep the lights on and buy food. If your mortgage payment exceeded that percentage of the household income the loan was denied. To “make everybody able to buy a house”, the government forced/allowed banks to violate the most basic rules of finances and engage in a highly speculative generation of financial instruments (mortgage-backed securities). In many cases people were allowed to buy with zero down payment (100% financing). Many experts wrote about this in 2005-2006 and warned that this bubble was about to pop, and identified the institutions that would take a big fall, those who were involved in guaranteeing, securitizing, and holding these mortgage-back securities like AIG, Fanny Mae, Freddie Mack, and a number of financial institutions. But few people listened. Alan Greenspan convinced everybody that he had a magic wand (Greenspan's Put) that gave him the power to prevent the disaster.

In 2008 they knew the risk but saw a way to get rich and used tax payers money as insurance. The next one may trigger events that may only be exceeded in scale by the great tribulation.

I saw an interest rate cap as high as 8%. Many of those loans required no income documentation. It was a Countrywide loan.

Millenials and Gen Z are some of the poorest in history. Meanwhile baby boomers have raped the economy for their own gains. How many speculative bubbles have burst just in the last 20 years? That shows the people running the show are totally reckless with the economy and people's livelihoods. The pay gap between normal workers and CEO's is over 700%, this is nuts. Wise Ole Geezer Circa 1941 bingo!!!! in many of my comments here I also mention the false appraisals obviously the lenders accepted the false appraisals since the higher the false value, the higher the earnings from interests alone. where were all the nation's property tax assessors that knew it was impossible for houses to double in less than 5 years and 1/4 Acre lots jump over 1,300% from $5,000 to whopping minimum $75,000 ?????!!!!! I'm citing examples from Port saint Lucie, Florida from 1998 to 2003. I laughed in saleswoman's face when I inquired about a new house costing $180,000 not including $75,000 lot, 4% finance charges and closing costs. she assumed I'm from Northeast USA so she thought it was a great price deal and investment for my future. I then asked her how long she's lived in Saint Lucie county since it was obvious not over 4 years. I think she said less than 2 years. how I wish I had a video of the shocked look on her face when I informed her that back in 1991(12 years earlier),i was given a map by the builder that marked all the lots owned by them throughout the town that i could choose from. I picked which side of town, the lot, which side I wanted the garage on property, which color to paint the house and which color I wanted roof tiles to be. I mentioned the fixed interest rate I had was a whopping 9.5% yet my monthly payments of principal, interest, taxes and insurance was only $530. she looked so confused at the low monthly payments so I said" and oh yeah, the house sale price was only $56,900 on a brand new house built specifically for me.". I'll never forget the stunned look of great disbelief on her face. I told her to go check the property records department at City Hall. oh, and to please let me know when the prices return back to Earth.

Murray Flewelling System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities..... Pawan Rai System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities..... You have a fiduciary responsibility in this industry to assist and protect these good hardworking people. I am grateful to them because they enable me to earn and take care of my family. You are supposed to be your brother's keeper. Wish all these corrupt greedy pricks had followed suit. They give us honest proffesionals a bad name and not only is it wrong , it's unforgivable. Jose M. Botelho Jr. You are absolutely correct! It all comes down to $, a fake and corrupt interpretation of true US currency. It’s sad how we as the people have embraced this and corporations and banks have capitalized on our belief of the “system.” Money is just numbers being electronically moved back and forth and all over the world. Corporations and banks fake their earnings because they can, they are the bank, they can type into their system whatever amount they want. It’s unfortunate because the financial industry is really genius. I am a CPA, and have been for over 14 years, and it’s a shame how the collapse in 2008 has slapped a bad name over all of us. The financial industry will never be the same. There will be another 2008 most likely in 2020. All the evidence is there. What’s that old saying again, “doing the same thing over and over again despite achieving the same result,” is the definition of insanity. It’s quite simple, but our fake currency and greedy corporations continue with their old tricks disguised as something new. Cheers brother. I’m glad to see some people still have morals, let alone a brain.

If you notice it starts off saying buyers could not afford the loans, but then it goes on to explain how they brought them in with teaser rates but allowed those rates to balloon to who knows what. so what really happened is banks and mortgage companies tried to rob lower income Americans with adjustable rate mortgages and balloon payments but in the end put themselves out of a job and then tried to use the excuse of these people got loans they couldn't afford, well guess what not too many people could afford a mortgage with 12% interest rates and gas prices @ $4/ gallon, and energy prices were also through the roof.

Under the fear of being labeled as racist practices they bought into the community reinvestment act driven by Bill Clinton and the democrats attempt to continue to influence votes of the dependent class . When they tasted the easy money they dove in then out of greed but research it and you will see what the roots of the crisis were. Torino Herrera System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities..... 10) Revive Survive Thrive. greed, pride, gluttony, envy, sloth, wrath, lust greed isn't all that bad. watch FMA-full metal alchemist. greed is good + bad. It depends what you want. You want something and strive for it. If you want world peace you are also greedy in a good way. You are greedy and want your family to be safe your loved ones first before anyone else. It's human and understandable. Pride is far worse: you wont admit defeat, you can't learn from your mistakes because of pride. We had that TBTF mantra in 2008. too much pride too much greed for themselves too much envy too much sloth. It was a combination that came like right now.

And no mention of the CDS sales when the bankers realized it was all going to crash and then started unloading their MBS as CDS products to make monry when everything would crash. In essence, once they knew it would crash and they figured out a way to make money from it, they pushed them to the edge to make them fail for profit. The film Margin Call is one of the best examples of this.

I also put the blame on every consumer I've ever met that never cared about total finance costs. all they wanted to know was" how much a month?". sure they look down at my older, used looking vehicle. but at least mine was purchased with more cash then they'll ever see. they never see actual cash being transferred when a loan approved or line of credit utilized. they're still making high monthly payments on over priced vehicles that the novelty had worn off as the defects start shining through plus higher insurance payments. they can't understand how I'm always smiling while buying myself all kinds of expensive toys and paying for all my expenses in cash from my paychecks while they always have to pull out a credit card .

Rod Den System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities.....
