@@marlerr__4235, those bikes are fixies. Steel. And no brakes. They are fancy only in the sense that they have to be all exactly the same. In Keirin, only the rider should matter, not the equipment. There is money being bet on these cyclists after all.

No.. theres japanese are much shorter then European and hence have a disadvantage. There's a reason why they allow so few foreigners to race.

Well it depends, mostly Japanese keirin racer will not participate in UCI competition because they afraid to get injured and also prize money not worth it at all.....So most of them , don't want to play for the country because it not worth it at all

@@mrboast2826 crashes are more common playing in its home country, that's why they are highly armoured during the play. UCI and NJS carry nearly the same game with completely different fundamentals; one is to enable that sport so that everyone gets an equal chance to participate, and one's primary intention is gambling and quality supremacy.

Most of these won't because the money they get at home is far bigger than what they'll get at the Olympics, which presumably is peanuts. Wakimoto, in addition to winning a record 123 milion yen at the Keirin GP, he became the first 300 million yen earner the same year I read that at the Tokyo Olympics, they attracted the big names (Yuta Wakimoto, Yudai Nitta and Yuka Kobayashi) because they were promised the money they would earn in keirin

It is partly a martial art since the shoulder shoving e.g. at 5:18 is part of the sport, and within the rules.

I wonder what these riders would do on short course Zwift races that start off and remain full gas throughout, with a punishing sprint mandatory for any placement. Pretty sure they'd dominate.

You'd think with this level of discipline they'd have a more prominent position in events like le Tour de France.

In the world of Keirin, the Tour de France is only for sissies. No shoving and elbowing is allowed in the Tour. Also, the average earnings in Keirin is higher than in UCI Sports.

I’m surprised they ride such slow bikes. They need wider tyres, Carbon, and aero wheels.

Because keirin is nationally approved gambling, they use old-style bikes for fairness. Even now, they uses steel traditional bike.

They want the only variable to be the rider, not the bike.

Almost all their gear is identical and they literally wear 10lb of body armor. It's not about weight and speed, its about power and fairness.
