Inside The Toughest Philippines Prison | Short Documentary
The "Correctional Institution for Women" is the oldest and largest women's prison in the Philippines, founded in nineteen thirty-one. Designed for one thousand PDLs - "persons deprived of liberty" - today there are about three times as many. Prisoners range from petty criminals to drug dealers, from murderers to gang members. The guards are outnumbered. Your best bet at keeping prisoners under control: Strict rules that everyone must adhere to. Over and over again there are checks, to ensure no one has managed to escape. One hundred percent security is impossible! The inmates are allowed to deal with tools, gas-cannisters and knives. All potentially lethal weapons.
"The bedrooms and living quarters, the so-called "dorms", are spread over several buildings. Among the inmates are also so-called ‚High Value‘ PDL's‘. A huge compound, full of hardened criminals. In a jail where just a few dozen correction officers watch over several thousand prisoners, who roam freely during the day. For keeping control, the guards even work together with privileged inmates, that are allowed to punish the other ones.
This episode of Behind Bars tells not only his story, but also that of the inmates, and the environment of the prison and shows in impressive pictures how life behind bars works.

I was arrested for printing and writing bad checks. My bond was $75,000. The detectives went to ONLY 1 of the businesses where a check was cashed at and the cashier was shown my picture and agreed that I was the one that cashed the check. Well , I DIDN’T !!!! It ended up costing me $7500 for the best lawyer in town because they refused to do their job and prove that I was not the one cashing the checks they were just using my name and ID. I almost went to prison for four years because of this. Can you imagine how that felt? Sitting in jail with a ridiculously high bond for something you had no clue was even happening until they came to your front door to arrest you in front of your neighbors and family. The detectives don’t do their job because they don’t really care. Out of the over 20 places where checks were cashed, they only went to 1 place to get someone to confirm that I looked like the person who cashed the checks. They were offering me a little over four years in prison, and there was nothing I could do about it. The public defender (public pretender) kept trying to get me to take the four years so that’s why I had to hire my own attorney. Almost lost my job too

Overcrowding, corruption, unsafe. Typical prison setting. Very sad.
The justice system isn’t perfect. So there are always innocent people in prison.
"Everyone is equal under the law" unless you're rich. Also, a lot of people are falsely accused, so not everyone in jail is an actual criminal.

you'll be surprised at the older men's prison during the past govt administrations, before the reform they had it all, business shops, own rooms with comfort amenities like air conditioning...etc, jacuzzi for the gang leaders, guns, knives, meth lab where they earn way more than guards, prison wardens so it's easy for them to bribe guards and other prison officials. they have concerts where they can invite local entertainers to perform, prostitutes, alchohol, they even make music videos and sell singles and no one wears prison uniform...it's like they're not in prison but living inside a small town. but when leadership changed, all their happy years are all gone.
So many people especially woman in prison these days
When debbie get out? I’ll be there.

Hot n humility 😂
there is a saying that Not all in jails are criminals and not all criminals are in jail that proves that the judicial system in the Philippines is very poor
It over for some of those ladies 😢
A number of young South African girls have been captured in Asian countries for trafficking, one black lady was caught with huge dreadlocks that were stuffed with drugs from South America, I think China is the country where she captured, the truth is that some people just want short-cuts in life, they deserve to be caught. We are all human, and we all have struggles but that doesn't give us the right to destroy other families' lives by selling/transporting drugs and being involved in any other criminal activities. I say this as a South African, Myself.
Pati sa Thailand prison may South African din nakakulong. A 23 year old South African woman serving a long prison sentence for drug trafficking wrote an eloquent letter offering a glimpse into how it feels to be locked away in Thailand. Ashley Oosthuizen was found guilty of international drug trafficking after she signed for a package containing MDMA at the restaurant she worked at in Koh Samui, ‘Hot in the Biscuit,’ in late 2020.
