This is the thing I really like about Joel. When he makes something, HE makes something. He's not hiring a bunch of people to do everything FOR him, but WITH him. He's involved in everything that makes for his career. He produces the music. He makes his albums' cover arts. He is involved in the brainstorming process for his next stage setup. He's testing constructions in Blender. He makes the visuals, is co-developing the controlling equipment for his stage techs, and you can tell he's really involved in everything because he can explain it to detail by heart. It is so authentic and that's what I like about him. He's one of the few artists that when I see a stage show, I know he made it. He's presenting HIS work, not showcasing stuff that others created for him.

I mean, as far as i know this thing isn't POPULAR, it's a system that you see so rarely, and imho 80% of the system from the frame, the motors, the leds, the hw and sw that make it run is made for it and not commercially available. He just laid back and sipped on his beer. He doesn't need to be sneaky about it.

Unfortunately, I had to cancel my Lost Lands trip due to work BUT my friends rescued me from boredom by taking me to the Cube V3 show at Hollywood Palladium this past Thursday. I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!! I've only seen Deadmau5 in music festivals but never as intimate as this.... and I am a BELIEVER! Also, he reignited my love for Techno.. Also, his opener, i_o, was INSANELY PHENOMENAL. I felt like I was in Berlin, listening to badass, modern techno music or something. I hope you guys go see this show... you won't regret it.

I acquired my music taste from the “90s” DJ culture like the crystal Method, the prodigy, Roni size, Oakenfold, BT, etc etc. So it brings me joy to see artist like Deadmau5 trying to be creative and break boundaries and actually know his craft from producing to show tech. Many modern EDM DJs are all about looking cool and “turning up” at overpriced festivals.

This is why I love deadmau5 even though I don't actively listen to his music as much as I used to or should. It feels like everything he does now is a passion project. At the very least, he's extremely involved in his craft at every step of the process. Many artists seems to just shovel that off to others and use standard festival and stage effects.
