    My Grandfather was a Tuskegee Airmen (332nd Fighter Group) and part of the Los Angeles Chapter. They blessed me with a replica of their bomber and the P-51C Redtail on the back when he passed away.

    Such a great, but tragic period of history. These stories must never be forgotten. While, he did not serve in the Army Air Corps, my late grandfather whom passed away around this time last year, was a crewman aboard a Fletcher Class Destroyer. His battle station was a Gunners Mate on a five inch gun. He, and his ship escorted ships across the Atlantic. I thank you greatly for this channel, and these videos. Soon, very soon...all of these great men, and women whom served their nation at their greatest time of need will be gone, and the torch will fall into our hands to keep these stories alive.

    Very amazing how the very necessity of fighting that terrible world war sped up the required technology and ambitious spirit of so many brave and resolved minds to create these magnificent war beasts that outflew and out battled all enemy comers, TJ! Excellent realistic portrayal here!! Jim C.

    My grandfather was a pilot in ww2 I believe the 8th air force in England he was a bomber pilot. The odd thing is after the war he went back to work as a union carpenter owned his own company and everything but I always thought it weird he didn't fly after the war

    I met a retired farmer. He had done well on aptitude tests in basic training, and although he was only 19 and had never been close to an airplane, he was offered pilot training. He flew B-24s in the Mediterranean, came home and never flew again. I asked him why. He shrugged and said, "My Dad needed me on the farm." Flying bombers was just a job he had been assigned.

    Well, no, at least for my wife's uncle, who flew the P51D "Jasper Joker" (Tamiya has a model of his plane, complete with Don's livery / nose art). As happened to many fighter pilots of WWII, the stresses and fears encountered in dogfighting stayed with him. They pretty much wrecked his life after WWII. In extreme old age and suffering from dementia and alcoholism, Don would unremittingly relive horrendous moments. It's a great plane, a brilliant design, a joy to watch and hear flying, but it was more than bad ass as far as the pilot was concerned. Every moment behind the stick in enemy territory was maximum effort.

    A , Q : can a P 51 landing in a carrier ?

  • @cypher1o1

    @cypher1o1

    4 ай бұрын

    One could, it was modified to land on carriers with reinforced gear, landing hook, and reinforced frame. Also, it only did it once since landing speed was so close to stall speed. but 99.99% of P-51s, no, it's strictly land based.
