I got to drive them daily and honestly it is a cool job. I have nit run these new trucks with the cab in the center but I drove the 773d i think. You left front tire was directly under your butt like the very front edge of the left front tire was directly under your butt so for me they were easy to drive 7 speed automatic just like your daily driver car...lol. This kid is lucky to be on such flat terrain we were mining coal in the appalachain mountains of Northern West Virginia and south Western PA where Im from and it can be extremely Steep hillsides we worked usually had have d10Ns and D11s make us roads and working with the highlift 992 to load us and the 988bs loading the on road coal trucks.

I knew exactly what he meant by "pucker up" foreman had us going up grades that were too steep bc he was not the smartest...lol I was going up a grade so steep i was riding wheelies in it to get up them. I had is start to rain in the middle of a steep climb like that and turn to straight mud slippery like grease. If you followed another loaded truck you can literally watch the ground buckle like your on a big sponge under the extreme weight.

All depends on where you get hired, I lucked out and started working for a quarry at 16 driving haul trucks, they're not as big as these things, just a Komatsu HM400 but it's still pretty damn big. I didnt get any certifications, no cdl, just got trained and been driving them for 3 years now

In the UK we have CPCS, Construction Plant Competence Scheme. So many categories. They aren't the law, but no site will let uou on without one. Excavators above 10 ton, excavators below 10 ton, wheeled excavator (not a backhoe loader) below 10 ton, above 10 ton etc, etc. Then you have a category for quick hitches, doing lifting operations, the list goes on..... Likewise I had Articulated Haulers (ADTs) Volvo A25s, A30s, Cat 725s etc, but I wouldn't be allowed on a CAT 773 or 777. If I wanted to work in a quarry or mine I'd have to do another course. Then, they wonder why they can't get hold of operators on site. Quite often you work self employed through an agency, so any courses or testing you have to pay for. As for fun. Yes, for a short while, then it gets boring, really, really, boring. Load at point A, tip at point B, 12 hours a day with two 30 minute breaks all day. You go where the company send you (I worked directly for a company then), could be a two hour drive from home. By the time you left home and got back, you had just over 8 hours at home to shower, eat, and sleep. Glad to be out of it.

@@justinmartin8887 The Hm400's we run get around 7-8gph when hauling on flatter ground, longer hauls around the pit going up and down the haulroads they'll peak out around 10-11gph. You'd be suprised how fuel efficient they are. And you're cruising at a constant speed, haultrucks spend about 1/5 of their life getting loaded depending on the size of the hoe they're being loaded by. One of our hm400's has 6000+ hours and only about 25k miles

Because in that world and many other blue collar jobs, mistakes and incompetence can get you killed, and subconciously that stress adds up. It's the same reason people have no patience on the road, you're doing something evolution never intended, moving around at 60 mph where you have to trust the other guy knows what hes doing to not go over the line and hit you head on.

No Seatbelt No Hi Vis and dumps load then drives off with tub still raised theres some lack of safety procedures and then the non efficient side loading of ridgid haul trucks should have them in on a 45 to minimize how far the digger has to slew while pulling that batter

This is actually one of the smallest dump trucks. And its not his language that is shameful, its the way he drives and gets into position for the digger, very bad. This guy is a terrible operator and the digger operator working with him must be so frustrated
