Inside The $8 Million Pilatus PC12 NGX

Inside The $8 Million Pilatus PC12 NGX Plane
0:00 - Intro
The Pilatus PC-12 NGX is a versatile and rugged aircraft that can reach 21,300 airports worldwide. This is everything you need to know about the PC-12 NGX by Pilatus.
0:54 - Cabin
The PC-12 NGX has everything that you would expect from a modern turboprop aircraft. In fact, the comfort level is so high that in many ways it matches and even exceeds some very light jet aircraft.
The PC-12 NGX has 330 cubic feet of cabin volume, which is equal to the volume of some aircraft that cost twice as much.
The PC-12 NGX features executive seats with a full recline, tall seat backs, and an increase in headroom over the previous generation. Seats are finished with fine European leather and custom hand-stitching. Pilatus has a plethora of designs that will perfectly reflect your unique style. This places the PC-12 NGX on par with aircraft that cost far more.
Passengers will find a flat floor throughout the cabin and a completely private lavatory at the front of the aircraft.
The PC-12 can be outfitted with the latest WiFi technology, entertainment, and connectivity technologies. This makes the PC-12 NGX the perfect environment to relax or work in.
2:50 - Cockpit
Pilatus has dubbed the PC-12 NGX “the world’s most advanced single”. Their reasoning for this is that the PC-12 is the only prop aircraft to offer advanced avionics that are typically only seen in high-end business jets. The PC-12 can be piloted by just one person.
The features include SmartView synthetic vision with performance-based head-up display symbology and Advanced Cockpit Environment, which sets the bar for ultimate control and situational awareness. Furthermore, Pilatus has integrated an autopilot that is optimized for stability and smoothness.
Safety features of the NGX include Emergency Decent Mode and a Crew Alerting System that automatically calls up the appropriate electronic checklist on the multi-function display.
3:50 - Safety
A concern that many people raise is the safety of a single-engine aircraft. There is a perception and misconception that a single engine is not as safe as multi-engine aircraft. While this once was true, technology has increased in such a way that stating safety as the reason for flying a multi-engined aircraft is no longer a valid reason.
For example, if you look at the accidents per 100,000 flight hours of US and Canadian registered aircraft of single-engine aircraft vs twin engines, the PC-12 comes out on top, with an accident rate of just 0.60. In regards to the PC-12 family, there have been just 24 accidents out of 4 million flight hours.
5:12 - Engine and Performance
The PC-12 NGX is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6E67XP engine with Electronic Propeller and Engine Control System. This helps to give the NGX a take-off distance of just 2,485 feet or 760 meters. The landing distance for the aircraft comes in at just 2,170 feet or 660 meters. When in the cruise the aircraft can fly at a maximum cruise speed of 290 knots. The aircraft can climb up to 30,000 feet and fly non-stop for up to 1,803 Nautical Miles, which is 2,075 Miles or 3,339 Kilometers. A Maximum Take Off Weight of 10,450 lbs gives customers plenty of flexibility when flying their missions.
6:09 - History
The Pilatus PC-12 range of aircraft has a long and impressive history. The PC-12 NGX is the latest iteration of the single-engine turboprop from the Swiss manufacturer. Originally announced in 1989, the PC-12 was created in order to fit a new market not served by aircraft of the day. In 2007 Pilatus officially announced the next generation of PC-12. In 2019 Pilatus announced the current model, the Pilatus PC-12 NGX. Upgrades include lower cabin noise, higher cruise speed, updated avionics, larger windows, and a redesigned cabin. Deliveries began in 2020.
8:22 - Charter Price
The estimated cost to charter a Pilatus PC-12 NGX is $2,000 per flight hour. Naturally, prices will vary depending on availability, fuel prices, ground fees, and more.
8:36 - Purchase Price
The list price for a PC-12 NGX is $4.4 million before options. Previous generations of the PC-12 retain their value impressively. A five-year-old PC-12 is estimated to cost $4 million. Examples of the PC-12 that are twenty years old still maintain their value, costing just under $3 million.
The value retention is far greater than the competition and the operating costs are significantly lower than its twin-engine competitors.

Thanks for another great video. As a former airline pilot and instructor who's been fortunate to fly to a ton of non-airline served airports ...the PC-12 is "the one" for anyone with constant missions of under 600 nm or so. Most people don't know that there's a 250 knot speed limit under 10,000 feet. So, the shorter the route, the less time a jet saves one in trip time. The combo of fuel burn, speed, and pax capacity has been unbeatable. We'll see how the new Beechcraft Denali competes.

Fuel burn /use. A turbo-prop uses less fuel per NM than a Jet - however, it's slower. But, with a short enough trip, a jet doesn't save that much time. Plus, there's a 250 knot speed limit under 10,000 feet. @@BlackAfro77

This is the most versatile and cost effective aircraft after it is purchased. The TBM 960 is great and faster but how many passengers can go 1,700 miles without needing a bathroom? 4 or 5 hours holding it, just doesn’t work for most. The PC-12 is a little slower but if you have to stop to let grandma Betty pee, well their goes that speed performance advantage. That’s just my opinion. Both are absolute beast aircraft.

The NGX model is five years old, time to come out with a new updated model with autothrottle and a "Home Safe" type option.

I believe that it does have autothrottle already. They don't use Garmin avionics, so I suspect a "Home Safe" type option won't be any time soon. I don't know if Honeywell is working on such an option. Must be massively complex.

@@climbmaintain It depends. For short flights at low altitude, the Pilatus will be superior to a jet, even with the current Pilatus price of over six million $. For long-haul flights at high altitude with a comfortable cabin altitude, a jet is much better than the Pilatus. You won't feel good on a five-hour flight with a cabin altitude above ten thousand feet in a Pilatus. And you won't save so much on expenses. Jets are also safer thanks to two engines, much faster climb rate, better anti-ice systems and high altitude cruise.
