I'm still heartbroken over the fact this never came to fruition. This could have easily been one of the best animated movies of the decade.

I hope this project gets revived, I would love to see it one day.

What I love most about Faust is that, while she implements female protags, she never panders, where she writes them like real individuals with actual personalities and flaws. What's more, she doesn't try to belittle others, where her content is enjoyable for everyone, boys girls, adults, we can all watch her work and enjoy it while never feeling talked down too.

***** All I learned about him was that he was Icarus's father and made his wings, and he was banished to the top of a tower or something like that. As it happens, that's one of the odd spots where I'm lacking a lot of knowledge on mythology. Certainly interesting morals to the story of flying too close to the sun though.

Wow, this interview told me a lot more about Lauren Faust, and she's awesome. She's quite the feminist, she really has a strong passion for making cartoons and drawing, and she deserves way more credit than she gets. Stay strong Lauren Faust.

Indeed you're right, there's one private video from 1995 (I think) where she was working at Cats Don't Dance and she has short and blonde hair, of course

Happy she seems to be having the creative freedom she deserves. She's brilliant and a loveable dork. I look forward to what she has brought to the table with this film.

I'm so glad I found and watched this video. I've always wondered about Lauren & Craig's lives, other than attending Cal-Arts and all. So cool to hear Lauren discuss her life, and I'm so excited for _Medusa_!

It's a shame she won't be working on this anymore. Between her and Gendy Tartakovsky (Popeye), Sony just seems totally clueless when it comes to their talent. Update: This was pre-Spiderverse. Sony is making progress now.

No, the show is much better now, and her episodes were not good.

It's nice to see she's still doing what she loves to do. I'm looking forward to what Medusa brings us. But now I have to play Devil's Advocate! All the big movies that tackle mythology have focused heavily on Greek and mainland European lore. But what about Irish lore? Or, Japanese lore? What would a story focusing around the Yuki-onna or Inari, who happens be a Shinto deity, what would a film focusing around those characters be like? What about the courts of the fey in Irish lore, what are the interactions of these queendoms like? I say queendom because the the two courts are ruled by queens. The courts are known as the Seelie, also known as the Summer Court (will be explained), and the Unseelie, also called the Winter Court (will be explained). The Seelie are described as the the mischivious pranksters that have no ill intent towards anyone, they're just out for a good time where the worst someone gets is a few scrapes and bruises. The Unseelie are described as a more malicious group, the they're the kind that revels in the pain and suffering they inflict and will even go out of their way to set up potentially deadly scenarios for their victims. The Seelie are also called the Summer Court because they are ruled by a queen named Summer, she described as being the living aspect of her season or at least an avatar of her season. I really haven't found a whole lot on her personality, but what if she were the protaginist of her own story? What kind of stories could you tell about an entity that supposedly has all the power of summer itself flowing through her? What if she has prove herself worthy of the right to be Summer, what the power is too great for an ordinary fey? Which she usually would before she was "chosen" to be the next summer. What would that kind dynamic bring to the world of the fey? The only character attributes I could find about Summer is that she's usually a warm and kind soul that likes to spread her warmth where she can, and as a strong level of aggression towards Winter and any who serve her. The Unseelie are ruled by a queen named Winter, who has a similar reltionship with winter as Summer has with summer. A quick note, the only character attributes that are attributed to Winter are that she is a very cold individual and has a deep seated hatred for Summer and all those who serve under her. Winter could make an interesting Villain Protaginist, and in a sense her story and Summer's could be similar in that after the fall of the old queen she has to prove herself worthy of the right of being new queen. A sort of neutral fey that exists in Irish lore is the Dullahan, which treated like a sort of faerie grim reaper. They are described as being male and female, so there's a lot of potential there. They are also called the Headless riders with headless horses, which might creep few people out, especially since they literally carry their heads under their arms and probably the head of their horse on the horse somewhere. In a sense they're described as being the aspect of death in of itself, they hold no allegiances to either court or queen.

Very interesting video.. I like it, she talks about all her animation life, including mentioning Cats Don't Dance (one of her first animation jobs, when she was very young and one of my most favourite movies) and My Little Pony. She looks very awesome. I live far away from her, in Spain, but I have promised myself someday in the future I'll get to meet for a day, talk about the movie and get a dedicated drawing of Sawyer from Cats Don't Dance. A little wish of mine.

She did write everyone knows it's bends, and the mlp episodes she wrote were fairly weak.

I so look up to Faust and I'm extremely excited to see what she and Sony does for Medusa.

Medusa looks good, but I'd buy the ticket just for the Director credit.

I remember those cartoons based off Disney movies that had no right to be as good as they were. Alladin, Tarzan and of course, Hercules. I remember Medusa being in that show, and I always loved whenever she was in a episode, so to see Lauren Fausts interpretation of the character? I hope this comes to Europe, because i so, I'll bring some friends and have fun!

I'm so SOOO mad they cancel this for that shit Emoji movie, this and Popeye. I love Lauren Faust's work and it's just such a shame this was scraped, it looked so interesting and I love any story of the "villains" of greek mythology. I can only hope that it's get picked up again one day.

Her sentiments echo many of my own regarding my college experience, almost word-for-word in some cases. Very validating! I'm sure looking forward to Medusa, it sounds right up my alley.

Can't wait to see her interpretation!

Apparantly Lauren didn't talk much about MLP and her departure with ponies but hopefully Medusa's going to be great.

I honestly think if Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust did make a Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon, I think the cartoon would be great and would win lots of awards. I could so see Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust making a Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon. I personally think the 60s and the 80s and the current Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoons is not that good. I'm not saying they're terrible, but they are pretty average. Also I could so see Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust bringing a lot more new ideas to the table and doing much more world building in a new series than the ones that the original creators did in the other cartoons. Let's just face it, the world building in the original cartoons were not that good. I still like The Chipettes, but they were essentially rip offs of the original Chipmunks. So I would love to see much more original chipmunk and other anthropomorphic animal characters in a new series than the ones shown in the other cartoons.

Erich Scheidle hearing this left me feeling insulted and heartbroken because Sony wants to make movies for children(or middle schoolers in this case for the Emoji Movie). Rather than everyone else who has the love of animation. Both Genndy and company really influenced me to become an animator and dreaming of creating a movie one day. As Animat will say, One day, Sony Animation will regret for rejecting Medusa and Popeye and the company being shutting down forever because of their stupid choices they made since the late 2000s. Luckily, Genndy gave us Samurai Jack though. I too also believe that Sony Animation will either close down forever or start making better decisions and make movies that people really want to see. As of now, FUCK YOU SONY FOR INSULTING THE ART OF ANIMATION!

probably CGI, that's pretty much all Sony does and I hardly ever see 2D features anymore. although Faust does mainly do 2D animation so maybe...

I still feel as if Lauren hasn't even approached her best yet. Medusa is a cool idea and all but it seems out of touch with the ideas she normally has. How many decades will we have to wait to get her masterpiece? One, four, forever? If she was given the resources to just let her vision fly, she could change the entire cartoon industry to a point no one would have imagined.
