simple man you should visit the hood and see all the brand new Escalades, Mexican Drug Cartel money launderers who “own” a local business, biker crews having safe houses where they stash their stuff, black gangs stashing all their drug, prostitution cash and usually having a squeaky clean one going to HSBC or some other high yield bank to do the “official” stuff. Not sure where you live but places like Miami and L.A. are notorious for this. Just like DTLA has a lot of dirty money going around and from mostly blacks, Mexicans and Chinese who pick peasants of their own race to launder money with perks like new cars, houses, jewelry etc as payment besides cash and they will often go to high yield banks. I knew this kid who went to college for financing or whatever but obviously being gangster trash he failed. Long story short he went straight to the hood life and he got picked by his local crew to wash money due to his money skills and he started going around in brand new Mercedes, jewelry and having a business class account at Citibank for god knows what. You’d expect to see him to be a respectable man but he was dirty as a hood.

I'm betting it was all just an act to make everyone think he's crazy. Dalton Russell is very deliberate and calculated in nearly everything he does. He probably knew exactly what he was going to do but put on a little performance just to make everyone even more nervous.

@@savagenature1 I dunno, the movie is very clear that he’s a chessmaster, but there’s also a few indications that he’s a bit off his rocker as well. He describes himself and the job as brilliant too many times for the audience to have any doubts about his level of narcissism. Listen to the way he says “anyone else here smarter than me?” As if he’s just annoyed that someone would consider themselves superior to him in any way. Part of his motivation for the whole robbery is that he a) considers himself morally superior to the principal victim and b) thinks everyone else is too dumb to stop him. He’s right on both counts, but still.

I think the point of having that ringtone is that it was personalized. Not the song exactly, but hearing a regular ring ring you might assume that it could be anyone's phone. But a unique ring and Peter's reaction eliminates any shred of doubt that the audience that it might not be his phone.

Peter was in the SUV at the end of the movie. He was in on the job! The robbers were too principled to beat down an innocent civilian, so one of their own took a beating for the team. It was necessary for the others to see Peter get hurt so there would be no heroics. It was Peter who tripped on the 'missing' safety deposit box in the first place and led the robbers to the prize.

Peter was not in the SUV at the end of the movie. The twist was that the poor old clumsy Rabbi was in it. Peter is the bank worker who opens the vault for the detectives when they show they have a warrant at the end of the movie. Saved y'all from misinformation.

If that was filmed today you'd hear the constant smashing of screens as everyone put their key and phones in the bag.

I saw this movie in theaters when it came out. When the robber said "Don't worry about it," and just walked off like it was nothing, that had me scared, lol.

The look on peters face when his ring tone went off was of pure horror.

Just watched this film on my 19th birthday, on April 19, and I just have to say that this movie is by far one of the best movies I've ever seen. The way that Oliver plays that man, the robber could not be done any better then him, it was perfect and a solid acting done by him. Not only that but a movie can never go wrong if Denzel Washington is in it. Glad that my twin brother bought this movie for us to watch like he always does, and never fails to pick the most amazing movies. @@usul573 Flip phone? They did have a locking feature but it was never used as it was tedious, and not really as necessary as phones then didn't carry as much "weight" as they do now. Phones these days hold so much more they need to be locked. Not so much then.

XxMVPxDawg I really think that Peter was a member of the gang and that he was the real "inside man". 1) no badly beaten or killed man was found in the building after it was brought under control by the police, 2) the police investigation came to the conclusion that no serious crime had been committed in the course of the standoff (well, hostage taking is a serious crime but nevermind), 3) the most important thing: how did the robbers got all the insider information necessary to plan their actions? they needed an "inside man" at the bank and it could be that it was Peter who provided them with this information. He was a bank employee.
