I got myself an Osprey Manta 34 last week and I have to say that the "stow-on-the-go" feature genuinely surprised me in terms of how much I like it. Looking at the marketing pictures I always though it looked uncomfortable to have your poles there so I expected to not make use of it, but I at least gave it a try and they're not in the way at all.

I miss that feature after switching to an “ultralight” set up. When thru-hiking it was super useful for road walks.

14:44 One of the reasons I bought this pack, was because of this feature, but it doesn't work like you describe it. When I tighten the hip belt, it only tighten the front of my hip, it doesn't pull anything towards me. I literally tried it out 1 min ago and payed attention to it.

weight is one the older ones was about 250 grams lighter, they are using recycled material which is probably inferior and cheaper to make but increased the price and the weight is considerably heavier lol. Bum deal I'd say

What is the comfortable maximum load weight for this backpack 44 and 55 ? So that the shoulder straps do not crush.

Osprey recommend no more than 11kg for the 44 and 16kg for the 55. Harry

I have purchased this backpack based on positive reviews like this, and reviews about the old model which is almos 400 grams lighter. This is by no means a lightweight pack at almos 1500 grams for a 44 liters pack. Why anybody is saying out loud that the new talons are not same as the old ones at almost 40% more weight??????

Paul, thanks for great review! unfortunately I cannot try on in the store in my country. Can you give some advice, please. Which size will be better for 2 nights for a regular trip and sometimes for a few more or around week? Will 44l be a compromise variant for light-weight stuff with tent? Or 44 my be to big for my regular light-weight 2 nights trip? Thanks!

Hey Mark, it's all about the torso length and not the capacity of the pack. Your own personal kit will determine the capacity, your torso length will determine the size required. Check out this helpful video - kzread.info/dash/bejne/haBl26yam67WXZc.html

Nice video, but i have not seen any mention related to the weight and the fact that it increased by about 30% over the older series (at least for Talon 44). Do you have a scale to measure and compare between old and new ?

I'm afraid we don't have any of the old Talons left. According to some old reviews, the previous generation weighed 1105g vs the new one's 1340g. Harry

It's not an item we stock so I can't tell you how it's different in practice, but it seems to have a more substantial backsystem and a tougher selection of fabrics. Harry

I had a chance to try the 33liter talon and i really like it. Unfortunately my torso is 1-2 inches too long for this pack. I know it's not as important to have a perfect fit for this size pack but is there a similar pack (feature-wise) you can recommend that does adjust to at least 24 inches? Thanks guys, great reviews!

I'm afraid most packs stop at 21/22". I've had a look through our range and currently can't find anything longer. Might be a good idea to visit us (if you're near) or your local specialist to have a proper pack fitting. It's much easier in person when you're at the top or bottom end of the measurements.

They used to be S/M or M/L but this new one is available in S/M and L/XL. I did buy one of these in L/XL thinking it is the new M/L but I measured it up against my old osprey talon 33 in size M/L and the L/XL is not bigger but not available in M/L size. Would you recommend I go S/M in this one then?

Did the Osprey replaced the Stratos 50 by the Stratos 44 variant? Because on their offical website the 50L variant does not exist anymore.

Yup, 44 is the new version.

The shoulder straps are thinly padded. Do the shoulder straps put pressure on your shoulders if you carry more than 5-7 kg?

Not particularly. I personally prefer wider but thinner shoulder straps as they distribute the weight of the pack more evenly. Harry

We only stock the Stratos, meaning that's the only one we've tried. Therefore we may be a bit biased!

I have a Stratos 50 for long day hikes, unbelievable pack!!! An now i want to byu a 30 liter for smaller hike. I am between the Talon 33 and the Deuter Futura 30. What is your opinion? Excellent review as always 👍!!!

2basic design flaws. Ditch the top lid and use a roll top system and ditch the bottom zip.

Hardly a design "flaw". The Talon range offers a variety of closures and pockets and roll-tops are usually reserved for a more waterproof construction. Thanks for watching.

For the money you spend on an osprey which aren't cheap, you'd at least expect a rain cover.

They do include raincovers on most of their packs, it's just the lighter models that don't. The Stratos is an alternative which does have one.
