Running a campaign with 10-plus regulars AND several folks who show up whenever possible? That takes serious organizational and creative skills, even with talented, involved players who love roleplaying and worldbuilding as much as they do crushing their foes. Absolute respect for running this game.

I have to thank Joe and Critical Role for bringing the cool back to D&D. I now DM for my son's friends who have fallen in love with the game the same way I did at 10 years old. Plus, HBO do not need their permission to make further seasons. They own the brand. If HBO so wanted to, they could have made it 15 seasons. They should have hired more writers to finish what they couldn't. They are also to blame. And insulting D&D because of this, makes you all immature and pathetic. It's people like you lot, is why half the films and TV shows now are terrible.

Amazing that Joe has all this 3D modeling going on, on the table, where players can actually see where they're at, see the things they're fighting, versus just having to imagine it all from the DM's narration. Gives me a kind of warhammer feel, but it feels right, like D&D should just be done that way all the time. Now, imagine the room is dark as the players enter the game room, except for a small reading light at each seat, with just enough light so they can see their character, dice, and flagon of ale, but the dungeon in the center of the table is dark and unknown. As they progress, small, dim LEDs light up sections of the table showing where they are in the environment, but not what lurks beyond. And maybe a sound effects sampler behind the DM's shield, with speakers under the table, to let players hear the environment.

I found this video as I am learning to DM for my young family, I am the father and I am currently chewing through the DM 5e guide and I was looking for tutorials and examples of play. I wanted to take my young family on adventures when we are all sitting in doors ,wanting to connect and also distance ourselves from the technology. Like most we are not a millionaire family, but I found this video reassuring as it's nice to know that I am learning a game that millionaires will chose to play in their spare time, of all the things they could be doing and they chose to play D&D ,that really says something.

The two groups at the end before the majority moved to different places (Sucks being a military brat) had an epic final battle as the DM's best friend stopped playing and help co DM. In 1980 there was an exam to be certified as a DM. I think that it was from TSR, Gary Gygax or the Arduin person. For a time I had every copy of Dragon Magazine, the basic set and then Advanced D&D as well as The Books of Arduin. This allowed me to make decent money in college. I met a lot of people through the game and I love that it is ‘still’ bing played. Great job guys and this is the absolute best way for children to learn/maintain creativity and adults hopefully negating dementia. 🤙🤙🤙

Love it, I miss playing DnD and other RPGs. I never played the board game version, we just had to picture it all in our heads (there was no dungeon or man cave to go and play in). My friends and I would always just play in our parent's living rooms or our small places. To this day I still think about ideas for missions and playing again.

I think gary Gygax would have been happy to see this. I use to run 20 member groups events back in the "Good'o days" and I am so happy to see this game come back to light with good fun and story telling. Keep it up and liberate your mind.

Old Man Marx i would have to set up a 60s egg timer for each players turn description to keep things moving if I was a DM for a 20 person game lol

@@matt-lang Trick is setting up a dice event page on your DM events calendar. No one does it any more. But I use to have most of the die rolls ready before the game time started. Most of the players where put into groups as part of a larger story arch. But was younger then had more time and tones of paper work. One line on a note book was one day of events from random encounters to weather. Only slow up was good RP time. And a few creative players that worked events. We use to rp mechwarrior to. Using a combinations of Lancewarrior rule sets and Airospace system to make a grid for a invasion force. This let us do a wide range of battles and combat for flanking attacks with out having to do a normal Mech battle. Back then with some creative work math skills and some paper you can run large campaigns with one GM and a few helpers to fill in the gap.

Man we used to have a lot of fun playing back when we were kids in the early 80’s. Our DM kind of sucked though making himself invincible. That’s really what broke our group. Awesome vid here.
