A somewhat popular, and plausible theory, is that the boy is 'controlled' by the imprisoned blob, trying to free itself from its captors. The concept of controlling humans in this game is quite prevalent too. First, it is introduced with the helmet device to acomplish a series of easy puzzles, and later this is further explored with more, and more advanced strategies required, to overcome moderatley complicated ones. This theory is also further reinforced by the fact, that the boy appears to come absolutely out of nowhere, but with a clear goal of reaching the observation labs, and the blob's cell. There seems to be no other incetive to voluntarily risk his own 'life' for making this journey otherwise. In the scripten scene, where the drowned girl/siren pulls the boy down to the depths, you can see how he is 'plugged' into something, and although it doesn't become immediately obvious, the next time that the boy interacts with the 'puppet humans', he no longer needs to wear any helmet devices (please correct me if I'm wrong here) for them to follow, and obey his commands (aside from the fact, that he can now breathe under water that is). Finally, in the area at 1:37:46, the gallery that the blob crashes into, mirrors the final scene of the blobs 'escape', hinting at the fact, that its 'release' has been foresaw exactly to the letter. Even the fact that the observation lab personel actively assists the blob supports this. When they gather at the observation area of the blob, its because they know it is highly intelligent and self-aware to the point they've anticipated all the events, following the boy's assimilation, making this a self-contained story (with the exception of the boy's innitial journey, and his attempts at "disconnecting" the various hidden devices along the way). I like the overall ambiguity and the 'show-don't tell' approach very much, leaving a vast room for interpretations and assumptions. The levels, their atmosphere, and the sound design, ranging from a sublime and calming tones, to suffocating (no pun intended) and agoraphobic droning, is breathtakingly mesmerizing.

Yeah, but the ending made absolutely no sense at all, nor did that supposed "secret ending" BS that made it even dumber. A good game, but terrible story telling in-game. Even your theory doesn't tell much of the who, where and why...Who is this kid? Why is he running away, or TO? Where is he actually trying to run to? The secret ending does not even hint to anything, nor those stupid orbs you find to unlock the stupid secret ending that made as much sense as wiping before taking a dump.

Totally altered state of mind inducing game. Eerie.

you can actually hear the atmosphere changing due to the shockwaves towards the end of the underground chapter. if you listen to the wind you can hear it rise and fall in time to the shockwave, like breathing.

This is the best $2 I ever spent on a game. I love this game.

Мне нравится, то что персонажи этой игры выглядят очень живимы даже без лиц. Оссобенно это видно на нашем главном герое. Он даже издает иногда какие-то звуки, вздрагивает, тяжело дышит после того как долго бежал. Именно это мне и нравится в этой игре, она мне никогда не надоест

Man the saddest part is how short the game was. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT THE WAY THE CREATORS MADE THIS. I wish it was so much longer man. U continued to want to know what was next. So simple yet complicated. I've never played a game quite like it. Wish I had something similar cuz now I'm at a loss lol. THIS is my perfect type of game. Puzzles, suspense, walk through side scroll type and simple buttons lol. WISH my bro was here to watch me play this, he would of loved it too. R.i.p Pablito.

In the light of recent events, I feel like INSIDE was prophetic. Turns out that the game was an allegory for power, control and social parasitism, like no game has ever been successful at. One can only wonder whether or not Arnt Jensen is a wizard, haha.

Makes me think of one of my favorite games Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission. Especially Zero Mission when you play as Zero Suit Samus.

Existem várias teorias sobre a história do jogo é também tem um final alternativo q ele acontece no começo do jogo.Quando você entrar no milharal no meio da plantação tem uma escotilha que você puxa e entrar, pesquisa isso que eu acabei de te dizer que você vai acabar vários vídeos mostrando essa escotilha que eu te falei.

i was playing this game in my high schooler. it's pretty fun but i decided to stop playing because i must set it (& my TV too) into "high contrast" set up and it's going to burn my eyes. unfortunately i'm not finished the game but yeah, such a nostalgic NB: sorry for my bad english

I beat the game by myself first and then I followed this guide all the way to find the orbs and some how I might of miss 1 or 2 of those orb things. Is there a way to check which one I missed?

Backstory? Hmmm, not really? There isn’t much of one. You’re just sort of tossed into this world trying to escape these people who are after you. I think part of the fun is playing the game and learning what the heck is going on? Don’t watch this and ruin it for yourself. It’s so fun and creepy!
