I like how she mentioned the ocean environment destroyed the old house so she pretty much had to rebuild from the start. Didnt realize that happened though i know they have to repaint bridges over oceans constantly cause of the corrosion.

This is really what design is about. Not just how things look but how they work for your family. So this is honestly perfect.

Honestly- this has been one of my favourite episodes. So much personality in the details. Ellen Pompeo's curated choices and story telling really make it feel so personable and lived in. Very refreshing to see so much colour!!

I love how honest she was about things like the heating issue with the marble tub - something I never considered and will definitely keep in mind for future decisions. Also underlines that she actually lives in and uses all parts of her house - I loved this (and her)!

I’m so glad Ellen showed the kids space because most of these home tours leave out the kids spaces. They are so important in facilitating imaginations and playtime. Very cool layout and views!

@@TheNerdistheWord The master bathroom is the space of adults, who can decide for themselves whether and how this private space is shown on the internet. i doubt that the children here could decide for themselves or that they are aware of the extent of this decision (and for example how many people, see this video)... The privacy of a child is always more important than the interest of outsiders in Interiour.

I do love the historic photos, yeah. I did find it a bit interesting she didn't seem to feel any need to also teach her kids about the other half of their history, since half of their family and ancestors are european, but that may be just the reality of being mixed race in the US. She may just feel like her kids will already learn plenty about that side of their history everywhere they go?

Can we talk about the DYNAMIC DESIGN DUO OF ELLEN AND MARTIN???!!! EVERY SINGLE TIME these two work together on her homes, they knock it STRAIGHT OUTTA THE BALLPARK!!!!!!! Waiting on a coffee table book from these two on the homes that he's done with her!

Her trying to make sure her kids feel safe in their skin is so amazing

This is by far my favorite house of all. So much elegance and class mixed in with warm and very comfortable vibes. My all time favorite.

This is one of the best houses I have seen on AD. Gorgeous structure, brilliant mix of materials in the interiors and love the way they have used green in their entire home.

Ellen Pompeo’s humble abode seems fitting to her own personality. Stylish, elegant, yet not too over the top.

The most detailed house tour I've ever scene. She's so involved in the formation/renovation of her house, her love makes it a home.

Hands down my most favorite episode to date! The home is stunning and Ellen is so real it’s fantastic! Bravo! 👏🏼

her wealth of knowledge is amazing. she didn’t just say “i want midcentury modern” to her ID and left. she really did collaborate. it’s refreshing.

Love the exuberant use of color. It would have been so easy to fall back on the monochromatic beach look but she didn’t and it’s glorious!

This might be my favorite AD Open Door ever - Ellen you need to host and lead more architectural tours (of any space). What great commentary and so authentic!

I havent seen Greys in YEARS but when she opened that door and said hi I just smiled so wiiiide :D

the part where Ellen "banishes" her kids to sit on the 3 chairs with that ocean view to curb their social media usage made me laugh. Wonderful actress and sad to know she's leaving Grey's but excited to see her next projects. =)

I love how knowledgable she is about all of the details of her home. So much beautiful thought and attention to detail was put into making it a functional work of art as well as a warm home.

I love everything about this house- exterior design, interior furnishings and decor. I think it's especially noteworthy that it's not what you'd typically expect from a California beach house- mid century structure with a lot of dark, rich colors.

Ellen's home is absolutely stunning! Seriously my favorite ever. Totally makes me miss California and I'm obsessed with her decor inspiration. 💯 ❤️

I ask this in a genuine, and hopefully respectful way, but why is saying 'black children' preferable to saying 'mixed children', when the mother is white? Both are true...they are black, and they are mixed.
