I got hired as a paraeducator and I only have my GED but I also had over a year in childcare at a school already, I’m starting in a week or so and I’m so excited but so nervous, this has been my dream job since i was 10 and to actually have it come true is crazy, I’m so excited and grateful.

I was in IEP when I was in high school, I was however misdiagnosed by the school psychologist so I didn't get as much support as I could have gotten but I still appreciated the paraeducators that helped me. I was misdiagnosed with Emotional Disturbance when I was really high-functioning Autistic. I could have qualified to be in a special education class but instead I just had regular IEP but I did have friends that were Autistic and were in special ed classes. Now that I'm 30 I'm hoping to become a paraeducator myself. I wasn't able to get my Associates degree as I still need to take one more math class but I did get more than 2 years of college done and I was also an honors student each semester. Even though I'm Autistic, I am "high-functioning", I was able to get through life for 26 years before I found out I was Autistic so I should be more than capable enough to help out those that are in special ed.

I hope you become a para educator. I was speech delayed when I was a kid. People get surprised when I tell them since I’ve been told I’m well spoken. I have been trying to look also. I think we are the best persons for those positions since we know how it feels like.
