    Bajaos are water nomads, kinda like water Gypsies. The government of the Philippines supposed to protect them financially (obviously with very little). They usually have elders that you have to speak to before you go in and video. Usually these kids will swim when you throw coins into the water that is what they were trying to tell you when you were by the water... Its a very cool and historical story behind them. Definitely worth the read.

    I live way out in the provinces near Badian. While we burn or bury our garbage, many just throw it down wherever they are. On the 150m walk from the road to where our houses are there must be thousands of COVID masks alone. The government can try all they want, but unless the people want their environment, and especially their home environments cleaner, it would be a useless proposition. I am making a little difference by educating my neighbours, and especially the children, who are far more trainable, as to the multiple negative implications of trash everywhere.

  • @poiqweee

    @poiqweee

    @@Kevins-Philippine-Retirement Spot on, Kevin. The issue is the ignorant, lazy people. The government is not responsible for how the people act. The people just don't care about their environment when they see no future. They just drink, partake of drugs, gamble, have sex, produce unwanted children, steal and search for food and shelter. Then the cycle repeats itself and gets increasingly worse.

    I’m pretty confused by the wealthy in the Philippines. I understand there will always be poor but one purse could go toward building real sustainable businesses that could employ poor folk. Instead some just buy super expensive items as if the function of a 2k purse is different from a 5$ sturdy cloth bag.

    There's really good news regarding that area. Mike Rama the mayor that just got re-elected has big plans for that place. SRP is going to be a major business / leisure spot in Cebu, with the new bridge done, investors are going to flood that area. That said, they're going to have to clean up the place at some point, and Mike Rama is already fast tracking plans for socialized housing and beautification of that area.
