Inside Atlanta United's 1st Ever MLS Game | MLS Insider
Спорт
It’s only appropriate that the first MLS Insider episode of 2017 would look at the MLS team that just played their first-ever match, Atlanta United FC.
The newest episode of MLS Insider gives a behind the scenes look at Atlanta United technical director Carlos Bocanegra at the club’s inaugural match, a thrilling, yet ultimately disappointing, 2-1 defeat to the New York Red Bulls in front of a sold-out crowd of 55,000-plus at Bobby Dodd Stadium last Sunday.
Atlanta will play the second match in club history this Sunday, when they’ll take on expansion partner Minnesota United FC at the Loons’ MLS home opener at TCF Bank Stadium (5 pm ET; ESPN2 in the US | MLS LIVE in Canada).

I was there and the first goal was absolutely crazy at the ga tech stadium it was so packed in there
Atlanta played so much better . I hope they can win their next games because they lack finishing
The day Atlanta United won my heart, along with Josef Martinez. I didnt know much about the club signings, but watch Josef I knew he was special. Although he didnt score, i just knew he was going bring something special to the team. VAMOS ATLANTA!!!
Is it just me or does the Atlanta United jerseys look like the old New York/New Jersey Metrostars jerseys. Also it's awesome to see how much MLS has grown, I've been a fan since '96, and use to have Galaxy season seats back when they were at the Rose Bowl.
I love Atlanta because they are awesome and that's my home state
Wow dude this looks like bundesliga MLS will be a great league they got everything going
And look where we are now. MLS champion's. VAMOS ATL
I could feel the atmosphere from just Watching this woow crazy
The fans of the MLS are under rated across europe in my opinoin! Also soccer fans, ive made a video on the FA Cup fixtures this weekend could you guys leave your predictions and thought on my video!?

Where were these crowds at the Atlanta Silverback games??
@DJQuin81
7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the Silverbacks don't have the funding, the marketing team, the ownership, the leverage, and the names that MLS does. It happens with the lower leagues, they don't perform at professional levels, they don't get professional level crowds.
@Bwman38
7 жыл бұрын
superluis64 Silverbacks never cared about Atlanta, attempted to market to anyone outside of the bubble of fans that already knew about them, and it was difficult to get to games and was terribly run. So in turn, the city didn't care about them. Also, it's just natural that people will be more drawn to top flight teams.

Split the 2 conferences regular season play entirely. 40 Team league. Bottom Team from each conference moves down. Top 6-8 from each conference play in playoff or champions league style playoff during next season. Would like to see this by 2030
Never heard of Atlanta Utd until today but at only i years old and ave attendances of 47,000 it wont be long until they're the dominant team in America !
awesome i support this league
as a Filipino fan, I just wanna know if MLS teams have plans to expand their stadium in the future... like increase the capacity to 50K?
@zyxwut321
7 жыл бұрын
Probably not in the near term. What's more likely is that some of the most popular and successful markets like Seattle will open up their football stadium seating further to soccer. In the early years of MLS all the teams played in football stadiums and the poor field adaptations, chronically empty stadiums and 2nd tier feel of the league that the stadium experience promoted almost killed the league.

I'm a Filipino, living here in Orlando, Florida. I don't think that some of the MLS teams have plans to expand stadiums, especially with Orlando City that just opened a brand new stadium last Sunday.

thank you for your wonderful insights, I was thinking maybe 20 years for now... and I like Orlando City SC's new stadiu... if they can keep that attendance every match for the next 5 years, I'm sure expansion will come... And I have one more question... 28 teams in the future... how do you think that will fare?

as of now a lot of teams dont need the huge upgrade in capacity as long as people keep coming to watch their teams play steadily the revenues might increase and the future all of the teams could have that type of european atmosphere.
Who else is here when Atalanta united plays the final today ...?
Great ambient in the stadium better than most of the teams in the Liga MX. Fan from Atlanta keep cheering for your team and the cups will come eventually.

@Ethan.... dont forget MSL is in its 22nd season and the US has a big challenge to bring the sport into a continent of 325 million people where other sports rule. Leagues like NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NASCAR get more tv viewers and live attendance than soccer, even college football NCAA and college basketball NCAA produce massive revenue and viewers than soccer.. Every time MLS soccer expands into a new market the league gets diluted in terms of quality players as player personnel move from one club to another, so this in itself pulls the whole league into a mediocre entertainment... But we are the Yanks, and we will get there.
@ethanvanheel4166

jlb74a Same over here in Straya man. We have AFL which is our own sport and the most popular down here, NRL which is rugby, Cricket, NBL which is our basketball league in its 35th season I think and also Tennis. Soccer doesn't get big TV views or anything due to not being free to air so it's hard for the A-League to grow but we have amazing fans and my team (Melbourne City) is only 7 years old and we have the 4th best fan group down here

I feel like Fox didn't mic the crowd well this match. You could tell ATL fans were into the game and hanging on every touch, but the crowd sounded muted. It's odd, since usually Fox Sports 1 has great crowd noise (it's normally ESPN that people complain about).

Soccer fans are such pretentious cunts. Clubs football is all about buying players. The promotion system is at fault. The NFL has a draft, so the worst team last season gets first pick. It's super competitive. Only five teams have won the premier league. They win cause they buy it. That fluke last year. Well that happens a lot in a functional league. Yeah Man United isn't a brand. Real Mom and Pop wholesomeness. Delusional.

I think MLS should expand, and implement relegation and promotions and a cup competition, just like in Europe they have a country big enough

There is the Lamar Hunt Cup. But relegation isnt ready quite yet in the US. You know how devastating it would be if a major city team like DC United that just built a stadium was knocked down to the "minor leagues". Soccer is the 5th most popular sport in the US right now

Here in Germany we have massive fan support sometimes if a team loses they selling the next home game even faster out than before ...
