    I’d heard about this in passing and just assumed it was another lazy rom collection, so never thought more about it. After seeing all the effort and extras that has been out into it, I’ll definitely have to pick it up! I love video game history and preservation so it’s great to see a company really put in the effort and care to present these games in an authentic way and place them in their historical context!

    2:24 much like Richard Garfield interview for mtg 30 where I bought roguebook, it helps to buy as a sign of solidarity for enjoying the video. Surprised it's on sale physically at retail but not digitally. Not too big a deal though Amazon is after Christmas but I can pick up at target. 9:00 ninja golf 🙂

    Sorry I missed this live, but I'm watching it now. I already ordered two copies, one for me, one for my brother. We were both kids of the 70's and grew up with ATARI. My only question for Mike..When is Nintendo going to beg you guys to make the Ultimate NES Museum Experience? I imagine they have a nice collection of stuff to scan and photograph. I'd buy it just to have clean versions of all of their 80's NES/SNES commercials. It would be an amazing thing IMO. -Matt Henzel

    so much work has gone into this collection, but alas, the first video games i ever played as a youngling still elude me: "Pitfall", "Enduro" & "River Raid". is there a reason, licensing or otherwise, that these 3 games don't make it into these kinds of digital collections? was i the only one who enjoyed these games back in the day? ah well, keep up the great work!

    Jaguar 2D games were chuggy like CDi? Hm, alright.... You can't run solely on 68K, you need to use the object processor/sprite engine and that has no issues updating 60FPS. It is pretty quick and powerful with sprite drawing. Slowdowns were caused by 68K limits or lack of optimizations. Nontheless, most "16 bit" Jaguar 2D games are running 60, with some exceptions. Actually there are a lot of pretty impressive Lynx games, mostly faux 3D, but also some impressive 2D scroller like the mentioned Shadow of the Beast. And there is Zaku, a fast shmup that runs 60 FPS. ;-) Lynx was very good at throwing a massive number of sprites on screen and nice to program.

    Highlander is not an Atari Jaguar CD exclusive anymore. In early 2021 a DOS port was leaked, developed back in the day, just two months after the Jaguar CD game. It has some advantages over the Jaguar CD game, but the video quality is just abysmal.

    When EA official spokespoeoe came out and said "nobody wants to play a Star Wars game as a moisture collector. Everybody wants to be a Jedi." I realized that the people getting paid millions of dollars to make sure the games are what the gamers want, don't know what the gamers want. Do I want a digital museum with high rez OG artwork and Hi-Fi OG sound assets? Hell yes I do. Where's my Serious Sam digital museum? Where's my Quake digital museum? I don't want to suffer through another action movie as long as I live. I prefer dry documentaries that could use a mundane moisture farmer.

  • @SG-gp1tr

    @SG-gp1tr

    Жыл бұрын

    I think it's important to be honest with ourselves about these situations. This collection is incredible but this isn't "what gamers want". This is what a select group of oldschool fans are into. If this sells a million copies it'll be considered a huge success. Disney and EA are not interested in selling a million copies of a Star Wars game. The gaming market is massive now and a big title will sell 10-20 million copies. What the majority of gamers want, no matter what we wish was true, are the action blockbusters. That doesn't mean there isn't room for smaller titles, but we're never going to get the AAA Moisture Farmer simulator unless somehow that becomes as popular as a Call of Duty game.
