Ciao from Finland and it's lovely to see someone making videos about Rome, especially an Italian. I'm coming there in October this year for the 5th time in like 4 years, I've completely fallen in love with the city and will be moving to Rome at some point of my life.

This reminds me of my trips to the grocery stores when I went on my trip to Italy 🇮🇹❤️ it was always exciting but a bit nerve wracking when having to order things differently than you are accustomed to and in a language you’re still learning ☺️ I can’t wait to go back 😄✈️

My husband and I just got back from a trip to Italy. We spent one week in Rome and two additional weeks traveling around the Amalfi Coast . We watched your videos for two weeks before we traveled to Italy and they really helped a lot! One product we bought at the Italian grocery store you mention in this video is GROM gelato. Sooo delish! Thanks for all your great videos!

So much fun! Our section of chopped fruit and vegetables is small. And yes, we call the pepperoni, bell pepper. And stores near the coast often have a fresh and prepackaged seafood. But your cheese section is so much better!!! And the selection of the "cold cuts" is so much nicer! We do have the same type of slicing option, it is called the "deli" section. Short for delicatessen. Activia and Dannon is very popular here as well. All of the bread and cookies look sooo delicious!!! Yum! Thank you for sharing!

Your English is very good and your voice is very pleasant to listen to. Really like your videos. In the U.S. we usually say "check out" but also say "cashier." The Barilla brand pasta is sold over here also. Liked the visit to the grocery store. Ours are very similar.

The grocery store is just like in the United States. Thank you for the tour...it was very interesting. I would love to visit Italy...maybe someday. My Grandfather came to america in 1930. My last name was Sabatini before I was married Grandfather was from Abruzzi region. Near a city of Teramo. A few family members have been there to visit. I have seen many pictures and home videos. Love this video. When you say "convenient", I think you mean "affordable" or "less expensive". We have store brands in the US as well. Kroeger, Vons, Walmart (Great Value & Equate). At first I thought your fruit was similar in price, until I remembered that was 1.49 euro/kilo. It's probably more expensive because you're in the big city. Maybe more affordable closer to where it's grown. That's why fruits and vegetables are inexpensive in California. We grow a lot! We have sliced produce, but it's more expensive... for the lazy or the busy people. ;-) Good price on the live basil! We have Danone yogurt in the US, labeled: Dannon. Oreos are very popular in the US. "Crisps" are called "Chips" in US. Lays are the most popular chip in US. The crisps with the stripes are called ridges or Ruffles in the US.

The wine is a little cheaper (hurray!). Everything else is about the same as here in the UK & Ireland. The hams and cheeses looked awesome. That's a really helpful video, thanks!

Finally wearing your glasses again! When I was in Rome a year ago I shopped in small grocery stores. I bought a couple of bags of almond biscotti which tasted so fresh. I forget the brand. Barilla is very popular in the States. It's nice to see some American brands in your market as well. A major difference upon checkout is the cashiers in Rome put change on the counter rather than handing it to you. In the States that would be considered rude. It's good to know the cultural differences.

Hello from the states! I love the idea of wearing a plastic glove when handling fresh produce! This something that isn't done here in the states.... And honestly the food looks delicious 😋😋🇮🇹🇮🇹. Loved those massive cheeses lol here in the US the cheaper supermarkets just have blocks of processed cheese. Wish we had actual cheese to chose from instead of having to go to an expensive whole foods

It would've been very useful to know the thing about the scale and the fruit in italian supermarkets back in 2019 when I was in Rome and grabbed some tomatoes, put them in a plastic bag and took them to the cashier (as we usually do in Mexico) among other things to pay and she angrily took them back to the scale muttering things in Italian that I didn't understand and printed the price sticker. As it was evident I was a tourist she asked if I had something else to weight. A bit later I realized she was angry because the supermarket was already closed and I was the last person in there making her waste time :( But the next days I knew exactly what to do in the fruit and vegetables section X)

The prices and the selection of products (and brands) will change slightly but for the most part you'll find similar items all across Italy! :) Bit of an obvious tip here but look for bigger supermarkets for a wider selection :D

The lines on the crisps/potato chips are called "ridges" and when you were saying some items, for instance, the conad yogurt was "convenient", I think you meant economical. Thank you for the tour, I like tours very much. If possible, I think a pharmacy tour would be very interesting.

It's up to you, but "un etto" is better you can say it in less time.

Question, I am allergic to gluten but also allergic to corn. Do the gluten free options in Italy use corn as a substitute?

That fresh pasta section! Omg! Here in Poland I once bought something called "pasta fresca". I was really excited, because it was impossible to get some before. But the problem was it wasn't fresh pasta at all. It was already cooked pasta putted in the container. It was disgusting - overcooked and dry out at the same time. The package was misleading. They write in Italian "pasta fresca" and it was said you are supposed to cook it. Hopping for the best I took it out and immediately I knew. It was a product design for people who can't cook normal pasta... Noooo...

In the United States, the supermarket is extremely similar and we do a lot of the same things over here... except for the Kinder eggs, as they are illegal in the United States.

you're supposed to take a different ticket for red and yellow peperoni. so the shop knows how many pieces were sold for each type,it helps their restoking of goods.of course or you buyer there's no difference.

I’m not sure who told you Americans usually buy already chopped fruits but that’s not true, we usually buy whole fruits & chop it ourselves. So far that supermarket looks very similar to an American one. You definitely have more packaged pasta than we do but otherwise I’d think you were in a supermarket here in the States, except for the brands of course. We have a meat & seafood Dept just like that, where you take a number & they cut your meat or slice your cheese the same as in your country 👍

I agree about plastic. The bags are made of a biodegradable material but the gloves I don't think so... Well good thing is that at least in Rome very few people use them haha

No, fettuccine are more narrow and tagliatelle are a few millimiters wider :)

Bags and gloves are completly ricyclable for law and you pay for It. Gloves use in mainly for higyene reason. Here in Italy we must to separate and recycle all the materials. So the packaging is oriented to.
