I remember the first day the Russians came. They were digging trenches in front of polytechnic. I also remember talking about Masood and admiring him and loving in the 80’s. I dreamt to be his mujahid. I also remember Afshar. I also remember the murder, looting, torture (nails in the head) and destruction of Kabul. I also remember the day I stopped wearing pakol and started hating Masood, and all the mujahideen leaders. Maybe not Ismael Khan. I have no connection to Taliban. I left Afghanistan 34 years ago. Actually before August 2021 I hated Taliban. They had prevented my wife from getting an education but I have come to love them since that time. I went to Afghanistan this summer. I went places I had never been to. Nobody bothered me. Do you think the US care about the women of Afghanistan? Do you think they hate Taliban because of some ideology? They hate them because they lost to them. They hate them because the Taliban did something the US couldn’t do and that is to bring peace and security. Their ego is hurt. They didn’t allow them to achieve their imperialistic goals. In terms of wife study. Consider which is better? Losing a member of your family, or having her not get educated. My wife is Alhamdullillah happy living in a big house in a beautiful city. It is not as beautiful as Kabul but we are comfortable. I am not saying education is not important but peace and security is more important. Living is more important than death. People reform. Death is final and it leaves lots of pain behind. There is peace and security and complete control of all territories loyal to one government. If you think that makes me wrong then you educate me.
