People have this bad habit of over modernizing the interior of old cottages. I love the Miss Marple cottage look!

Many are upset about the modernization of this house. But while I wouldn’t go for the current style, think about this: This house has been likely been renovated multiple times in its history, probably each time to whatever was the popular style of the time. I think of this a “living” home more than a museum and am happy to see it is still being properly used. ❤

But it doesn’t feel like a comfortable family home to me. Where is the warmth? The beauty about old cottages, and I’ve just spent 2days with my family in one which was an Airbnb that was a little worn at the edges, is that all of us felt it looked lived in and the kids loved it. It was very creatively furnished by the occupants not bought in.

Beautiful exterior but inside came as a shock. Far too over modernised, but that's simply personal taste.. I am happy we are returning to more colour & a traditional cosy feel.

Regardless of personal preferences for 'too modern' or wishes it were more quaintly old-fashioned, most of what they have done is gorgeous, and totally livable. I prefer not to use white everywhere simply because white does not keep it's purity over the years - I prefer cream shades myself for a longer living paint job. But this house is simply beautiful in every way and actually the price surprised me - I thought 1.1 million not 900,000 - the only thing I did not like was the neighbors being rather closer than I would prefer (you can see the house next door in one shot) & that would probably stop me buying this house if I were actually in the market for such a home - a house like this should have greenery all around it IMO ! I also did not much like the (chicken?) wire that is installed over the thatch - is it all over the roof ? - very practical but doesn't look very authentic.

SUCH BEAUTY , WOULD OVERCOME ANY OBJECTIONS I HAD. REMEMBER, IT HASN'T BEEN JUST A HOUSE, FOR ALL THOSE YEARS, IT SERVED SEVERAL PURPOSES FOR LOCAL LIFE, AND IT STILL HAS A FAIR AMOUNT OF PRIVATE LAND AROUND IT.

No matter the house, this modern/contemporary style is over used everywhere! I really dislike it. It’s cold and Uninviting. I love the plump pillowed sofas, upholstered fabric club chairs, luscious rugs throughout, soft lights from porcelain lamps, beautiful, long full drapes, warm wood tables, 18th century paintings in gold guilted frames, ottomans, bookcases full of books and beautiful decor. I wish interior designers would go back to the cozy inviting decor.

That's a grade 2 listed building and would come under listed building control . so the windows should be of a style sympathetic with the building ,which they are not . In fourty odd years of making windows for period properties rarely have I seen anything as tawdry as those , If it wasn't for the paint protruding way over the sight line of the glazing bars they would look like UPVC. Whoever buys this house.....Rip them out and start again , Less chunky casements ,Slimlite double glazing and one black monkey tail fastener and casement stay on each opening light. It would transform that rather nice cottage. Oh and lose the white gloss paint ,there are plenty of old shades of white available. @@user-ut2yp7uw2u

“Cottage”? It’s got five bedrooms, for crying out loud, it looks like two houses knocked into one (or the pub it used to be.) Merely having a thatched roof does not a “cottage” make - this is verging on a mansion by comparison.

I live in a cottage like this although not as large. We have retained as much as possible but a lot of original features were missing when we moved in. We have some spot lights as these cottages can be very dark. We also have mainly white walls but lots of colour in country flower prints and lampshades, cushions etc. This cottage is quite quirky and practical with comfort and light.
