Inside a Dream Holiday House At The Top Of a Cliff (House Tour)

A holiday home with a dual focus, Clifftop House maximises coastal views whilst maintaining a sense of privacy. Created by Ponting Fitzgerald Architects with appliances from Fisher & Paykel, the holiday house has a surprising relationship to its context.
Settled into a coastal community on the Coromandel Peninsula, Clifftop House sits on a ledge overlooking Hahei Beach. While the holiday house has access to striking vistas, including views to Mercury Islands, the unusual topography also leaves the home within eyeshot of other properties.
To foster a sense of privacy, Ponting Fitzgerald Architects purposefully restricts access to the surrounding context in some parts of the home. The atmospheric interior of the holiday house distinctly contrasts the coastal scene outside - however, the top floor of the residence sees a large, covered deck flow out to the view, re-establishing the connection to nature in dramatic fashion.
As an interior element of the design, the kitchen of Clifftop House contributes to the feeling of retreat from the outdoors. Dark American oak cabinetry establishes a modest and unimposing space, complemented by the seamless insertion of appliances by Fisher & Paykel. The result sees the internal architecture play a dominant role in the holiday house, guiding occupants through the home and towards the view.
A gentle imposition on its context, Clifftop House is defined by its architectural discretion. Ponting Fitzgerald Architects ensures that, despite having access to incredible views, the holiday house appears as a mere canopy from the perspective of the beach.

Have dreamed of living in the Coromandel for years, this house has only amplified that desire. Exquisitely simple design.
I love a good window house, the ability to appreciate nature even when you don't want it living right in your bed. The living area was beautiful.
What an amazing location and how beautifully the house is built to team it. Some wonderful and thoughtful design here.

@@freegedankenzurbaukunst5613why? the cliff is about 20 metres from the house and is only below a stream not like the waves are smashing into the cliff
0:41 I like how even this house is RIDICULOUSLY nice, the owners are still down for rocking a pair of the humble but venerated IKEA POANG chairs.
Not only the design but also the texture of the concrete is wonderful!
One of my top 5, of not 3. So dramatic yet so calm. Compliments to the studio!

Yes, #Fisher&Paykel appliances are beautiful. Beware of buying their wall ovens. I bought two wall ovens in 2021 and they have never worked during a single holiday. I bought the four year warranty. This did not protect me from being stuck with a large financial loss.
Excellent. I particularly like the limited very restful colour palette.

Why do so many homes in Australia and New Zealand, Tasmania use 'Block Wood Stripes' over Window openings on the outside of the home? Where can I find out more about this? What is this called? Great designed home, again.
Something I find a bit heartbreaking is seeing the old school houses in the background. Yes this house is understated but is there a community and council push to protect some of the original dwellings?

Isn’t it an idea for architects to sometimes design a house which is not going up into the landscape? But just to stand out? ( really nice house though 😌 )

I wish the video showed how the house was laid out better and showed more of the rooms. It looked so good I was really disappointed that the camera work did not really share the house with me.

a few more years and coastal corrosion will reach the house... how do they get a permit to build on a lot like that?
Love the general space (living, kitchen, balcony) and minimalistic aesthetic, but the rest of the home is a bit too bunker-like for my tastes.
Just lacking a bit of privacy
