This week, we visit an architect’s radically transformed HDB home in Bedok. Homeowner Melvin, who has his own Architecture firm, Kaizen Architecture, was obviously the brains behind the design of his home. It’s a 4-room 1,090 square foot HDB resale flat at Chai Chee, and looking at the original floor plans, the new place looks absolutely nothing like it’s original condition.
The first most unique feature is that a balcony space has been carved out for his plants, with sliding doors that separate the garden space and the living area.
Once you step in, the 3m long dining table constructed out of raw plywood captures your attention - especially with the custom built and designed spiral light hanging above. Behind the table is what he calls the carpentry core, where more storage space is seamlessly kept behind. In the living area as well is where he displays his art pieces, and collection of sneakers.
Special thanks to Melvin for showing us around his really unique home. For more of his work please visit: / kaizenarchitecture

One of my favorites on this channel. That garden patio is exactly what I dream to have in my apartment. Love how despite the concrete walls, it still feels homely with all the wood elements.

One of the more unique HDB designs I've ever seen in SG, well done! Really curious about the curved wood carpentry - while they look good I wonder about their resilience to moisture / cracking etc?

This is so another level. I love how the architect redesign the whole space to be open. What a spin. Super creativity also with furniture, affordable, cozy and modern, that's a great example that great design doesn't need to be unaffordable.

I like the long dining table and how the space opens up when you enter. The plant is an interesting feature that replaces the master bedroom wall and provides a certain privacy to the interior without being overly intrusive.

I had to come back to this video after viewing the clip on Ally’s spin studio. I like how Melvin totally redone the traditional layout of an otherwise simple 4 room HDB floor plan. Most interestingly enough, his vast collection of shoes are not hidden, it’s displayed openly like an art without looking messy and cluttered. I guess the openness of the whole apartment truly influence where your eyes wander and appreciate the rest of the aesthetic details in front of you. Love your work Melvin!

Hola.
Finally I see the great space, design and only one that I can feel its affordable. It's so authentic different the others. I hope to see this kind of house ideas happen more in Singapore.

@@NurzatimanAstha hilarious. I like. Same thoughts here🤣 there are segments of singles or even families who don’t need kids to take over their house design
I thought that's quite nice and it would be my favorite ideal style. But when I watched few more times, it won't be a good design. The reason is if you believed the fungshui of Chinese cultures, you can find the couple who stay in this apartment will become separate or divorce lastly because the kitchen is at the center of the apartment. Believe me or not.
