Man , Willem Defoe can do no wrong in my book

I completely and totally agree!

I dont know why but for some reason I love this movie even though “on paper” its a snoozefest. Something about Dafoe’s improv putting himself in the headspace of what it would really be like to be trapped in this environment jumped off the screen and made such an immersive experience. It could be because I love these type of isolation survival movies and I love any performance by Dafoe, but yea, for me this movie is way better than it has “any right to be” and was my favorite of last year without question.

I agree with you. I don't think with another actor it would have been anywhere near as compelling. I really liked it!

@@natesfilmreviews Exactly, its a script only Dafoe could have pulled off. Here’s the way I look at it: This movie went really under the radar but the reviews I saw seemed kind of “love it or hate it”, but the one thing that was consistent was that there was a buildup to a twist without an actual twist. But, it seemed like that was kind of what they were going for- the twist was that there is no twist. Definitely could have been executed better but I see what they were trying to do, theres so many ways to look at the themes of this movie but they are trying to say in a desperate or existential situation we often look for a deeper meaning or another way to look at things rather than facing them for what they are. Someone who reviewed this film mentioned that it would be really interesting as a live/broadway type performance, I think it could really be interesting in that format, or at least something that takes inspiration from this film and brings it to the stage. Definitely check out Trapped (2016) with Rajkumar Rao when you are able, it has a lot in common with this film and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s where Inside’s director got a lot of his ideas.

@@natesfilmreviews I think you’ll like it. It also kind of reminds me of Life of Pi in a way, there is some kind of social commentary about Indian culture layered in both of those films, I can feel that its there but at the same time not being from that culture its hard to know exactly what they are trying to say lol. It seems to be saying that when things get truly desperate everyone is ultimately on their own

The movie fkn sucks!! Use his cunning to survive? He does fk all. 2 hours wasted!
