From my understanding, and charters that i've been on, "Inshore" means you dont leave the inlet and you dont enter the ocean. Inshore you stay in the sound, bay, rivers, creeks. If you leave the inlet and enter the ocean, but stay within sight of land, that's what i call "nearshore" and you can troll for spanish mackerel right off the beach. And if you go further out (several miles or lose sight of land) that's considered "offshore"

You’re certainly accurate with that Eric, it’s just that most folks don’t use the phrase “nearshore.” But you’re absolutely right in context here. 👍

Have you though of offering Spechless as a head boat when charters are on the slow side? There are times when a party is only two or three people and the cost is prohibitive dropping $500-1000 for an inshore trip. I've been offered money to take people out fishing, however I don't hold a captains license (and have no intention on getting one), don't insure my boat commercially, and don't want to deal with people I don't know. Does North Carolina have an agricultural exemption allowing you to use non-taxed fuel?

We certainly have, and generally, when someone reaches out about a walk on, we try to combine groups.

How do yall go about fishing days that arent as productive as others, as far as the customer goes. Just started running charters and was curious about that.

Nothing much you can do really. Those are tough days for sure, and we’ve definitely had them. One key is simply not giving up and hopefully your customers will appreciate your efforts. Good luck out there!
