INSANE TOUCH AND GO! | Aer Lingus A330 Go Around During Storm Kathleen

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

One of many go arounds during Storm Kathleen but the most exciting was this Aer Lingus A330-202 EI-DAA operating flight EI52 from Seattle which experienced severe crosswind while landing and decided to TOGA after floating down the runway
Hope you enjoy!

I was on that plane! It's the only time I've ever been sick on an airplane. The pilot was a pro as was the cabin crew. Thanks for filming!

Cross wind landings are a real test of a pilot's skill. The Aer Lingus captain did well.

As a former private pilot, ( I'm too old now) cross wind landings were my major problem. I told my flying instructor and we concentrated on those. Eventually, I mastered them with great difficulty but they still remained a challenge.

EI-DAA used to come to YYZ all the time, she's only doing US flights now 😥 I used to see that beautiful green bird coming in to land, had it bookmarked on flightradar then one day it was parked for a long time (maintenance I guess) and when it came back, it started flying to the US only.

@@M_EIDW Oh this was end of last year/ start of this year, maybe D check? I can't remember the airport but I think it might have been Tolouse. Thought they had retired it cause I would go through my bookmarks and the plane was parked at the same airport for like a month. PS: I saw Aer Lingus flight leave today hours after writing that comment 😊

I bet they were as well! Made it in on Saturday and it was so much fun, doubt the passengers down the back enjoyed it. Thing is we have the view of what's coming, to them it's just swinging about unexpectedly.

I got a few from Manchester Airport yesterday. Very tricky landings. Good catch there. They were all over every where landing yesterday. Some didn't even make the landing just went back round

Great video, you got some awesome shots. Just to add a touch and go is a planned event for training, this was a rejected landing which is a type of go around.

@@M_EIDW not really, no. A touch and go is planned, this aircraft would have been cleared to land and then it flew a go around, it's semantics, but just wanted you to know the correct terms.

I’m just curious, with such a strong westerly crosswind why they didn’t use either 28L or 28R for landing?

  • @richardp2240

Because they weren't westerly winds, they were southerly.

The winds were variable between about 180 and 220 so 16 was preferable either way

ATC dictate the runway in use, when it's more than 20 knots across they prioritise 16 at Dublin, the pilots can ask for 28 but it would be a longer delay for traffic flow. They had 10 queuing to depart, some took 28.
