As long as you generously remove any mouldy spots to prevent listeria, haylage should be OK. Six wraps as recommended makes a difference. Definitely get rid of moles to avoid contamination. Formaldehyde is also carcinogenic. One thing about growing your own conservation crop is that you have better control over the quality. You will know which is cheaper when you add up the costs involved in making it.

Hi Glynn, Roll the field and Make hay in those fields. if you can hold out for it .haylege hidden costs with plastic. You would also need something to half the bale. Silage may go off before cows have it all eaten too. and give the cows a few nuts and hay then over the winter. Use the yellow cow precalver bucket from cystalx. There are a great job. Just 4 weeks to go if you know the date. If calving indoors use plenty straw and vaccinate for scour now. The calf then gets protected from milk. I would calve in doors until you get to know the cows. Be careful of pets . They can usually be the most dangerous at calving.

I would talk to the guy who is going to do your harvesting - they will say roll it - its the cost of fixing the gear if it hit a rock or raised ground - I understand your fathers thoughts on getting cattle - they are a big animal - if they get silly they will hurt you - sheep yes but mainly the rams but not to the extent of the cattle - I don't know if there is not enough grass or he does not want to work them, just does not want to be injured and you have to respect that as you get older you have to be more careful and it takes an age to heal

I would definitely roll ur hay field it will level out the ruts from spreading the slurry and push any small stones in to the soil to stop the mower hitting them and breaking a blade on the mower or even worse it could hit you in the back of the head if its a bigger stone

So you‘re buying fertilizer and hay for having lots of costs and lots of work with lots of sheep!? I‘ve always been a friend of low-cost-systems. I‘m sure thats not less provitable 😉 I feed haylage and silage to my cows and sheep and they all love it. Nice content, nice videos, nice guys!!! Good luck and greetings from Frankonia!
The sheep will go mad for the silage but just watch them if there’s any mould in it they can go blind very quick happened to a few of mine

very true.im being very optimistic
Yes you definitely need to roll or the mower will cut the raised bits and YOU DO NOT want soil in the silage , Listeriosis
I would talk to the guy who is going to do your harvesting - they will say roll it - its the cost of fixing the gear if it hit a rock or raised ground - I understand your fathers thoughts on getting cattle - they are a big animal - if they get silly they will hurt you - sheep yes but mainly the rams but not to the extent of the cattle - I don't know if there is not enough grass or he does not want to work them, just does not want to be injured and you have to respect that as you get older you have to be more careful and it takes an age to heal

that fencing is on since the 1980s. we have miles of fencing, we won't be replacing fencing until it's not doing its job anymore
The cursing is not good for the young subscribers. My grandkids are not able to watch until language is better. Your videos are really good other than the recent cursing.
